yes, severe caloric restriction slows the metabolic rate.

there is no logical reason for a person to want to have a slow metabolism. the metabolic rate natural slows with age, this occurs greater to women than men as women naturally produce only 1/10 the amount of testosterone that men do. if you have a slow metabolism when you are young it will be crawling when you get older and weight management will be a huge issue. messing with your metabolism in a negative manner will have nothing but a negative effect on your endocrine system and cause other health problems.

When you crash diet, you starve your cells for the proper nutrients they need. When you are done your crash diet and go back to eating normal... the cells will stock up on the nutrients because they fear that they will be starved again, this is why you actually gain weight and why crash diets don't work. Also why trying aneorxia once in a while doesn't work... you will gain the weight back.

after a crash diet your body takes every bit of energy it can and stores it in a survival attempt. what is happening is that your body is preparing for the next time that is is deprived of nutrition in order to ensure your survival. your best bet is to eat a continual low cal, low carb diet while exercising (cardio workout) at least 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes per day, or if you are not in very good shape, start with just 10 minutes per day and work your way up.

i did that, fasting and everything i over excessively exercised then i became bulimic, i have been all over the place and it doesn't feel good yes it does slow the metabolism down as you are causing the body to go into starvation mode also known as panic mode causing the body to store excess fat and hold on to it for energy, i feel allot happier as now i know how to get my life back on track. chanelle x
