I was taught this, but I have yet to see a verse in my Bible that said "Thou shalt not masturbate". So until I see that line I will continue to do so. (Or until I can actually attract a mate)

I'm not male, but I was told this. Trouble is, I can't find anything in the Bible that specifically says this is bad. The only thing remotely close is something about 'spilling your seed out on the ground', which could be interpreted a lot of different ways.
By the way, do not confuse people within the church who want to perpetrate evil within the church with God. It is very important to separate the two.
I am not Catholic, and I despise the way the Catholic church has handled the whole 'sexual abuse by priests' thing. In fact, they have perpetrated the evil - which is an evil act. But it is not an act I would attribute to God. Remember, just because a church, or a person, says that they are the spokesperson for God, DOESN"T MEAN THAT THEY ARE!!!!
Let God speak for Himself; in His Word, and His Creation. All other interpretation is subject to 'interpretation' through the filter of a human being. Be careful to whom you give credence.

No, I wasn't told that. Subject was never discussed, except my mom taught me how to work the washing machine. When I hear about teenagers masterbating 10 times a day, perhaps they should be told to get another hobby.

As a Christian, I've been on the fence for years on this issue. I attended a private college for two years where I heard one particular guy tell me he refrains because he believed it was wrong. I still had nothing to fall back on and stayed on my fence. Then, literally a couple of weeks ago, on Christian radio Dr. Dobson addressed the issue, using scripture I cannot remember (sorry!) that any and all sexuality, including masterbation, outside of marriage is considered wrong. Hearing it from him was all I needed to pick a side and stay.

Me. I grew up in a pentecostal part of chritianity. Not in anymore. If you read the bible, is in it. Why is a sin ? Because your body and soul belongs to GOD. The skin is the sin. Also having sex on your period is considered a sin. Is in the bible too.

I'm a Christian female (became a Christian 2 years ago). I don't think anything's wrong with masterbation if all--especially if it keeps you from engaging in sex outside of marriage or risky behavior.

My parents raised me Christian...I'm not anymore... they never talked about it. I'd been doing it for years before I even knew what it was.
Update: LOL two thumbs down? Why? All I'm doing is telling the truth--this isn't a right or wrong answer session, is it? You thumbs down fairies make me laugh.

Nobody told me that. It was easy - even as a young man - to figure out why masturbation was so wrong.
You feel like crap afterwards!

masterbation wasn't really brought up in sermons, sunday school, or by parents, but you're gonna feel wierd if caught doing it whether you've had the lectures or not!
