Vista is a disaster. My brother-in-law has it on his computer but doesn't know how to fix common Windows problems so I get to come over and play computer repair guy... (one of the many reasons I switched to a Mac a LONG time ago) And working on Vista makes me want to pull my hair out.

Not even kidding, it prompts for permission to do things constantly, is always asking if you really wanted to do something... I'm sure you can turn this off, but it's a security thing, why would you want to turn it off if its for your own security... My Mac only prompts me for permission in installing software, downloading updates, and if I ever download a file that looks like an application to make sure I really wanted to download it. Vista, I would double click on a file: "Did you really want to open that?" Yes. "Are you sure?"... holy cow.

Also, with each release of OSX my 7 year old PowerMac runs better and faster than it did the day I unboxed it because they write it to optimize system resources. All the latest applications run like a champ on this system... try that on a 7 year old PC. To me, Vista is overly bloated... don't get me wrong, each new version of Windows is more bloated than the one before it, but it's a little out of control. It's slow and not very well thought out I think. Where my Mac runs smoothly and is beautiful.

Apple and Microsoft have two completely different marketing approaches, and this is how it's been from both of their beginnings. Microsoft wants to rush a product to market and make a million bucks. They will push a product to market and say "eh, we'll fix it later." Apple wants to create a work of art and is more than anything concerned about the user experience.... and make a million bucks.

What's more, my 7 year old system has never once crashed on me.... software has crashed on me, but unlike on a PC it doesn't take your whole computer down. Apple writes OSX to have the OS operating in one sector, and the software running completely separate from it. Windows has the two entertwined so if one goes down, the other is screwed as well. This is a problem that Microsoft should have fixed a LONG time ago.

When I purchased my first Mac, I severely cut down on the amount of time I spent working on fixing problems with my computer and replaced it with time spent creating cool stuff. I've never had one single virus, no malware... Nothing. And all without a single piece of extraneous software installed to help protect me from any of it. It's just a highly intuitive, extremely user friendly operating system whose list of available programs and games is growing constantly. And yes, you can play games on them. Most big titles are available for both PC and Mac with mroe and more titles being added all the time.

Vista is a joke; far too many problems it! I'm very annoyed because I paid so much money for a half-baked product. I bought a MacBook a couple of weeks ago, upgraded to Leopard a few days ago and I absolutely love it! I used to think Mac users were just BS'ing when they said Macs "just work", but it really is true. I've used Windows all my life but I'm glad I've finally seen the light. OS X is the future; I will only use vista at work because I have no choice.

I have been a hardcore Windows user for 10 years and I would NEVER consider using a Mac. Then I read (and watched) this:

Mac OS X Leopard blows Windows Vista out of the water. Apple plays close attention to detail and simply creates an AMAZING user experience that is SO inline with our multimedia world.

I'd say Mac OS X Leopard just because first, it's cheaper, second, it has the same features as vista, but they are more pleasant and actually work, third, macs don't run in to problems as much, and fourth, you can run windows vista ultimate and decide for yourself :)

I personaly think you should go with mac. Apple worked months on coding and designing Leopard and Leopard and Leopard only has Time Machine, an easy to application that can back up your entire mac if you have an external hard drive that is bigger than your internal hard drive.
Leopard also has spaces, a program that lets you have multiple desktops to manage work than just one.
Alot of Vista "fanboys" say people use a feature called flip 3d in vista to flip through their open windows everyday because it is cool, easy to use, and helps you manage open windows easyer. Apple has a feature called Exposé. Exposé manages your windows a whole lot easyer! f9 f10 and f11 activate exposé, I froget what each one does, but you will use Exposé so much you won't know how you lived without it.
I hope you get a mac!

Thats not a very good question, you dont say what you will use it for.

i own and work with both and honestly

For usability and work i use OS X. For ripping DVD's and playing games Windows wins hands down.
