anti-depressants are SUPPOSED to change the personality, it is what they are for. However, if the alteration leads to abberant behavior as you describe, then that person is on the wrong med and needs to be re-assessed by her/his doctor.

Buying things, no, but acting weird, yes. When ever you try to control emotions, a natural thing, with the use of chemicals, an unnatural thing, there will be issues. I dated a girl who was in depression and when she was on meds it was like she was someone else. Where I think some rare cases of depression may need medication, I think a lot of these so called doctors over prescribe meds when they are not needed. The sure fire way to get out of depression is to quit surrounding yourself with negative things and people and find positive things to focus your life on. People turn into what they hang around all the time. You don't see recovered alcoholics hanging out in bars do you? If this is you or someone you love do them a favor and ween them off of those meds that are just hiding the problem and make them or yourself start to face these issues and eliminate them. Take an aggressive approach and quit coddling. Things may get worse before they get better, but whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Good luck!

I haven't had that particular problem with them, but if my sister goes off of them she'll behave horribly. I was on Lexapro for anxiety, and I became cold and heartless... the complete opposite of who I usually am. Try another anti-depressant and see if u can't fix the problem.
