Yes, even if you buy the latest limewire which I think is like $20, the songs you try to download are still copyrighted.
If you don't want to get in trouble, use iTunes and pay $1.50 for each song. Which I think is a waste because by the time you download the entire album, it will cost you $15-$20 so you might as well stick to buying the CD.

using limewire isnt illegal. downloading copywrited material is. millions and millions of people use it, and only a few have been pressed with charges. just as long as you don't download thousands of songs, or download through a university internet, the chances of you getting caught are very slim to none. these are the people that the iraa target. the only reason its been in the media so much lately is because the iraa want people to be scared, and therefore trying to stop people from using limewire.

Downloading from Limewire is not illegal. It is true that it is illegal to download any copy-write material without paying royalties but by being a "member" of their "club" it should be reasonable to assume the responsibility for paying the royalties would be on Limewire to pay them from the membership fees they charge. This is different from just passing the material between "friends".

yes it is because of copyright infringement. you are not paying for songs that are legally copyrighted. i used to use it all the time though. But i am at syracuse university and the school now blocks limewire from connecting to their internet [which all students connect to] because students were being sued and fined a couple thousand dollars for their illegeal downloading. So while you probably won't get caught, if you do...the fines are like $2000-3000. thats why their's Itunes

Limewire isn't illegal, downloading copyrighted music without paying for it is illegal no matter which P2P you use, if you get caught it can be very costly.
DULUTH, Minnesota -- Jammie Thomas, a single mother of two, was found liable Thursday for copyright infringement in the nation's first file-sharing case to go before a jury.
Twelve jurors here said the Minnesota woman must pay $9,250 for each of 24 shared songs that were the subject of the lawsuit, amounting to $222,000 in penalties. Complete article here: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2007/10/riaa-jury-finds.html

Yes it is illegal. If you are in a University especially you can get into a lot of trouble, they are really cracking down on students using their systems to download copy written material. Just dont do it.

It all depends on wich type of music you download. There are artists on there, who promote their music this way, to get as many people to hear their music, but yeah, about 90% of the files on limewire is illegal.
There's no "option" to check if a file is freen of copyrights, so stay clear of it like you did, is the best option...

Yes it is. You are file sharing music that you don't own the license to. Just like Napster use to do. Not to mention the number of viruses and trojans you will get on your computer.

It's not illegal as long as you are not "burning" your own cd's and selling them for profit. When you install Limewire for the first time, there is a disclaimer on there that ask you what you are using limewire for, as long as it is for personal non profitable use. You are good!
