Airway blockage in an adult by anything smaller than the diameter of a nickel is highly unlikely. The cough reflex is VERY strong and will eject anything that even comes anywhere close to the trachea.
If the pill has been swallowed already, there is no way you can choke on it; it's already in the esophagus.

Choking on a pill is actually more common than you think. I have never heard of someone dying because of it, but I've even heard of celebrities that have choked on pills. A few years ago, rumor had it, that Cher nearly choked to death on a multivitamin pill!

You can choke and die on anything, including your own saliva!
Try to stay calm, when taking large pills. Cut them in half, if need be. Take several large swallows of water, or juice, and wet your throat. Put the pill in you mouth, and take a small amount of liquid, with it. Push the pill to the back of your throat with your tongue, and swallow. Repeat the small swallows with more small gulps of liquid, and stay calm. My hubby can't stand taking pills, either. I have to crush them for him.

My boss almost died taking a couple pills. He threw them back in his mouth and they went back to far and got stuck. Luckily his wife was there to give him heimlich bc he could not breath at all. He would have dies without her. He said he learned his lesson not to pop them in his mouth anymore, so place them gently in there.
