Sounds like you asked 3 different questions in one lol.

First, to change your theme. Right click the start button in your bottom left. Next, click Properties and a menu should pop up allowing either classic or the XP theme. You can also change the colors of your open windows and other appearances by right clicking your desktop, going to properties again and clicking appearance.

As for your speed issue. If your computer has a long boot-up or shutdown time, then its probably because you have a lot running. If you use norton antivirus, your computer will be slowed when shutting down because it must close out everything. If you dont have norton, then just try closing out of all programs before you shutdown. For start-up, you will need to disable ALL the programs that auto-matically start-up when your computer does. AOL messenger may be one of them.

Other than that, you can defragment your computer, run a Spyware check with SpyBot Search and Destroy, check for viruses, purchase and install more RAM, or upgrade to a faster Processor ( thats the last thing to do ^^ ).
