Ignorance can be cured through education.

Stupid goes right to the bone.

EDIT:

Just as an attempt to dispell some of the ignorance around the infamous spilled hot coffee lawsuit mentioned above: In that particular case, the McDonalds that was sued had been warned by the health department on several occassions that they were keeping their coffee too hot. They ignored those warnings and continued to serve plasma-hot coffee. The woman who was burned by the coffee did not merely suffer a slightly scalded lap.

She got third degree burns!

To her thighs and GENITALS!!

Which required skin grafts!

The coffee was so hot SHE REQUIRED SKIN GRAFTS TO HER GENITALS!!!!

The case is often referred to as if it is a paragon of the frivilous law suit. However, considering that the egregiously hot coffee was hot enough to BURN HER HOOHA OFF, I think she deserved every single penny she got.

There's a massive difference. Ignorance is something everyone suffers from, but it's entirely correctable - you just have to acquire the necessary knowledge, which is easier than ever.

Stupidity, however, is a disease - a fundamental flaw that is incurable.

The two are often linked, and stupidity is a major cause of ignorance, but to describe someone as ignorance is no insult.

Wilful ignorance, though, is the worst of all - it's premeditatedly MAKING yourself artificially stupid.

Ignorance, is the lack of knowledge, or the even knowing that your lacking it. But stupid, is realizing your lack of knowledge and not doing anything about it. And this where it gets tricky, for me, when a person continues to do the same thing expecting different results. Now is that stupid or INSANE? God Bless You

Ignorance: "I don't understand evolution. What's a transitional fossil?"
Stupidity: "There is no evidence for evolution. There's a list of at least a hundred scientists who question the theory."

Ignorance is not knowing. Stupidity is refusing to know or continuing to spew misinformation after being shown the truth.

My out of dictionary definitions:
The ignorant does not know "something", then due of lack of knowledge make errors or wrong descisions.
The stupid does not know how to use the knowledge he/she has, therefore make the wrong descisions.

Stupidity is to claim you have knowledge when everyone around you knows you don't have any and then act on or behave in a manner suggesting you have knowledge when, again, everyone else knows you don't have any knowledge.

Ignorance is to be sheltered from knowledge either willfully and intentionally or blindly and unknowingly.

I use ignorance to mean lacking in knowledge and stupidity to mean anything from lacking intelligence to not using it to figure something out - generally, if a person just lacks native intelligence, I never use stupid.

Ignorance seems to mean that you haven't learned something, either because you haven't had the opportunity or because you never thought to learn it. Stupidity seems to be when you act ignorant on purpose (even though you aren't).

Ignorance to me means lack of knowledge and lack of tolerance. Stupidity is actually thinking you are not ignorant of something.

...Ignorance is simply, lack of knowledge... Stupidity is knowing better and doing it anyway... kinda-sorta like becoming "insane"... doing the same thing over and over looking for a different result...
