I decided to train for a 1/2 marathon a little over 7 weeks ago. I started out at 5'7" and 240lbs. (Yes, I am verymuch overweight, but I have an odd body type where I look like I am only slightly overweight! No one who knows me thinks I could weight anywhere near even 200lbs.) Anyway, I have not tried to "diet", but I also have not been eating anymore than I was before. I eat fairly healthy since I am feeding my family healthy foods.
Back to the training, I am up to speedwalking/jogging 3.1 miles a day (5k) and have been for about 2 weeks. I lift weights here and there, but mainly stick with the walking. My heart rate is usually between 135 and 160 for approximately 40 minutes during the main part of my workout. But....I have not lost ANY weight! It wasn't my goal to lose weight when I started, but expected a few pounds since I had not been moving much before I started this. I just think it is weird. I know you build muscle and that weighs more than fat...blah blah blah, but c'mon!!!

if you are getting regular exercise and not losing weight (body fat) then the problem lies in your diet. define "fairly healthy" as the changes that you have made in your eating habits are most likely not sufficient enough to promote the results that you desire. small changes in the eating habits and/or diet may results in little to no changes physically. the diet that you follow ultimately determines the size of your body and the body composition, not the activities that you participate in.

muscle weighs more than fat and since you have a ton fat on your frame all that you've been doing so far is maintaining your weight and building up your muscle mass

once your muscle mass is established the muscles will cause you to sweat more during your workouts and will let you workout longer and harder and then you will begin to burn off the fat

its a long process especially if you where more than 100lbs overweight but just keep up the work your doing and add a little more weight training to build up your muscles faster i'd recommend at least 3x a week

:) you're on the right track so keep going!!!!

I would suggest 3 days of cardio, and 2 days of weight training. Also cut your portionings back. Measure out your servings and start having healthy snacks between meals. in 2 weeks you won't see a drastic difference, but you will feel it.

You may have a slow metabolic rate
( the rate your body burns down the fat/ food)

Keep exercising and soon you will lose alot of weight.

Hope this is helpfull.

You might not have lost weight because you may be putting on muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat...so are your clothes fitting any different? Are your pants looser on you then they were?
