Next week I am meeting with my doctor to try to get a referral for the lasik eye surgery. Besides all the complications I have with my job/lifestyle with contacts and glasses any advice on what I should say to sway him more? I get a lot of symptoms with both glasses and contacts, and am going to tell him that. I have very sensitive eyes to light and everything...

I'd say stick with that. It's the truth and you'll remember it. If you start to mention other things, you may forget what you've told who. As long as you stress the fact that it's hard to function in your daily life you should be okay.

You will most likely have to go to the optometrist to see if you are suited for the surgery. They will check certain things about your eye to make sure the surgery is safe for you and that you will have good results. My husband had it done and didn't need a referral from anyone. He just made an appointment at a clinic that does the surgery and they did all the eye tests right there and was able to get it done. He is very happy with the results. You could call one of the clinics that does lasik, and ask them what you have to do to get an appointment with them. They will know exactly how to help you!!
All the best to you!!

The 2 people under me are totally right! You will have to pay for it! Medical insurance will not pay for it as it is considered cosmetic. But if you consider having to buy new glasses every 2 years, it won’t be long until it will have paid for itself. For my husband it cost about $1200.00 and that was a few years ago. Prices change, when it first became popular it was as high as $5000.00. Not sure of prices now.

Reading between the lines, I suspect you are trying to get your doctor to say that LASIK is medically necessary so that the cost will be covered by insurance. I doubt that you will be successful, I can think of no medical reasons for LASIK. LASIK will not cure light sensitivity.

Pay for it yourself and you won't need a referral.

i'm with judy B...i cannot think of a single instance in which lasik would be "medically necessary". lasik is a purely cosmetic and elective surgery, and is not covered by most insurance plans for that reason. i dont personally think there is anything you'll be able to say to "sway" your PCP into saying lasik is medically necessary for you.
