For me it was because I came home one afternoon and walked in on a guy burglarizing my apartment. We had a scuffle and he got away. I was so stupid, I actually grabbed the guy by the shoulders while he was in my bedroom and I tried to restrain him. I could have been killed. Ever since, I've have anxiety about leaving my apartment and panic attacks when I come home. I always expect to walk in on someone. I take anti-anxiety meds now that help a lot and I see a therapist.

This happened 3 years ago.

I was diagnosed a year and a half ago. I used to think it was only for war vets, or victims of violent crime, but I developed it after a long term emotionally toxic relationship and subsequent suicide attempt. I am doing much better with medication and counseling.

Combative (war)

Non-combative (emotional, physical, sexual, spiritual abuse)

The body, mind, and spirit are never the same after trauma. The effects and healing last a lifetime.
