I have bad allergies, and my ears are constantly clogged. I'd been to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) dr. before, and he said that I have a deviated septum though I'm allergic (how's that for irony ;) to general anesthesia so I can't get the rhinoplasty. I was wondering if it was safe to take one sudafed daily over a long period of time. Thank you!

Yes, I definately realize that I would need to ask my physician which I believe that he ok'd it but wanted a quick opinion and see if anyone took the otc on a regular basis :) I do take singulair each day as well.

Taking Sudafed Everyday

Sudafed amps you up and dries out your sinuses. Over the long term I think it would wear very hard on your system. Plus, being dried up all the time you'd start to have a constant bad breath problem. The better approach is to quit eating dairy products (or cut down severely) and ease up on the refined sugar so you don't produce so much mucous and inflammation. Exercise regularly to strengthen the respiratory system, and try the herb "stinging nettle" to see if it helps with the allergies. Yes, it hurts to touch that herb, but freeze dried in capsules it doesn't sting and it works really well to reduce allergies.

I think I would take a day off each week. It isn't good to fill the mind with just knowledge and not have fun or have time with other people. You are the best judge of how you learn and how well you retain what you learn. I think a day off is good for anyone that is studying as you plan. All work and no play as they say!! Good luck. I don't recommend studying one subject to the exclusion of everything else, i.e. reading newspapers, participating in hobbies, discussing issues with others, and so on. In my experience with studying, I noticed that when I took time away from studying and focused on reading the newspaper or discussing issues with others that I made connections with what I was studying that I hadn't when I was focused only on my studies. So I would suggest making sure you give your mind an opportunity to make those connections by not focusing exclusively on your biology/chemistry studies. If this isn't making sense to you, try both study methods and compare the results.

You should check with your local pharmacist or better yet your doctor because you should not take any medication longer than listed on the directions. If you do you could cause your organs such as your liver or kideys to shut down.

There is a presciption called advair that you should check with your doctor about.

There are better alternatives than sudafed, that could be very harmful to your liver. Over the counter meds are not meant to be taken daily.

I think that there may be 'rebound' issues using any type of drug like that for extended periods. This is similar to addiction, but not quite. I had it for a while to headache medication.

Have you discussed the possibility of 'twilight anesthesia" with your doctor? I can't take general either, but there is a version of the twilight that works for me:

I would ask for a second opinion from a doctor or maybe a registered nurse but never a chat room, we may sound wise and intelligent and caring but there is no accountability.
i know is your money but is only money versus your life.

be well and wise

I don't think it would hurt,One capsule every 12 hours. I haven't read anywhere that its dangerous to take every day..It just doesnt go along with alot of other medicines..You have to make sure you know which ones..
