the Hebrews to choose between the gods of their fathers and Yahweh (Joshua 24:14-15)? If not, were not these fathers aware who the God of the Patriarchs was? Have they forgotten their traditional God?

He is referring to those who left Egypt.

Remember all males above the age of 20 (?) died in the wilderness (except Joshua and Caleb)

So their Fathers perished prior to entering the Promised Land.

No he was talking about the many who had come out of egypt and had been croupted by the idol worship and many gods, just as the ones who demanded the golden calf that arron made. Not the "fathers"

He was referring to those in the past that had accepted other gods. Like the golden calf scene.
