Each department has their own requirements so the difficulty ranges. The larger departments like the LAPD, NYPD, or other large city hire a lot more. Many police departments have websites that list the requirements.

All states have minimum employment standards for employment as a law enforcement officer. States require law enforcement officers (LEO) to complete state Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) training that runs anywhere from four weeks to 18 weeks in a state academy. Many colleges are now offering POST classes that the states will accept. The main thing to qualify for an LEO job is keep your own record clean, be a good writer (lots of reports to write) study civics (you need to know the social make up of communities) and have the great, almost burning desire, to help society. LEOs must be physically fit, have above average common sense, be mentally stable (almost all agencies now require physiological testing), have no criminal background, a minimum of high school education (many now require two years college and some require a four year degree). There are few occupations that can give the satisfaction of being an LEO. It can be tough, it can be frustrating, it can be challenging, but it can be the most rewarding part of your life. It is not hard to become a police officer but unless you are prepared to face the adversities daily it may not be the job you want. Check with your local law enforcement agency and local colleges for the requirements in the area you are interested in working. You may think about the military law enforcement as a starting place. The Air Force has an excellent law enforcement program; good schools, good training, good assignments. The Army has a professional law enforcement branch (Military Police) and good schools but a lot of their MPs end up in combat and almost all spend the majority of their time in physical security. The marines are not too bad. The Navy Master-At-Arms (MA) (Navy version of law enforcement) has the least to offer. Their MAs end up passing out bed sheets and doing head counts in the chow line. Many law enforcement agencies give preference to applicants coming out of military law enforcement; especially the Air Force (Security Police) and the Army (Military Police).

I'm sure the department that serves the Compton area is always hiring.

I want to be a cop, too. I'm not sure how easy it is, though. You have to be a very dynamic motorist.

That depends on the applicant. It could be easy if you have the drive and willpower to go through an academy.
