im in the AF, 6 years out for you? well you know the main one stay fit. start looking up AF career fields you might like to be in. and it wouldnt hurt to learn your ranks. if your school has a JROTC join that it will help a whole lot. not only with learning more about the military, but if you have enough years of JROTC you can start in the real military at a higher rank (E-3) most of the time.

First - figure out what kind of job you want to do while in the Air Force, and then study what you can about it so that you have a better chance to get assigned to that. If you want to be an aviation mechanic, but you can't tell a propeller from a potato, they won't waste the time to train you.
Next, study hard and do well in high school. The better your grades are, the better chance you have of getting the job you want. The military likes dedicated, hard-working people. You need to show them that you're one of these people.

Join the Civil Air Patrol or JROTC if you want to get familiar with working in a (sort of) military structure. Stay reasonably fit and stay out of trouble. Talk to a recruiter from time to time to keep abreast of what programs may be coming on line or ending.

How are your parents forcing you to do anything once you're 18?
One thing you might want to consider is applying to a college with an AFROTC detachment. Then you'll be earning an Air Force commission while doing what your folks want.
If you earn an ROTC scholarship, that will make school cheaper as well.

Before I spent my ten years in the Marine Corps, I spent four years in high school R.O.T.C. and participated on the rifle team. By the time I enlisted I knew how to clean my rifle, I knew how to march, I knew the military customs and courtesies, and I knew how to fire a rifle and hit what I was aiming at. It might also help you to learn how to swim well. Some times planes are shot down over the water and swimming comes in hand when that happens. You might also want to get a copy of military general orders and study them before you enlist. It truly helps.

Stay fit, learn about the different jobs you might like to do, and do well on your ASVAB which will help you to get the job you want. You should prolly be taking that your jr. or sr. year.
