They have recently been hit with fine of over $10,000,000 for condemning a soldier at his funeral. This is nothing new for the Westboro Baptist Church and they plan to continue. Should they be hit with a class action lawsuit?

It's the wrong category for a class action lawsuit. A product sold, or services rendered was not involved.

As a Christian, I'm ashamed of the way these people displayed such hate, since the Bible says that God is Love, and it is the LOVE of God that leads a man to repentance.

Jesus told a story of a man who planted a field of wheat, and during the night, an enemy planted tares within the field. The owner of the field said to wait till the harvest when the tares will be separated and cast into the fire because you can't tell them apart until they are fully grown.

What they are doing is dead wrong. I'm a fundamentalist, and this is the kind of action that people use to define us.
Jesus preached a message of peace, and forgave ALL who came to Him and still does. God doesn't hate anyone, that's impossible. What God does hate is sin. Whether or not this soldier lived in sin is that soldiers problem, not anyone else to judge. This church is wrong and should be punished, not only by the law, but by God. They are wrongfully representing the Christian faith, and causing others to be branded with the same actions as they are doing.
Homosexuality is wrong, but you don't go to a grieving father's funeral and protest. I honestly hope this church is punished for what they are doing. The Bible says they will be judged with the same judgement they give out. It's only a matter of time.
God is a God of Justice, and we should leave that to Him.

These people are just offensive. They don't deserve the name of Church, because they aren't biblical in the least.

YES! But do not continue to call them a church.

Don't confuse the Westboro Church with a Church. I support the TRUTH.

I don't know what a class action suit would do, but a restraining order to keep them from disturbing funerals doesn't seem to be working.

As far as what should be done to shut them down....nothing.
They, too, have rights (crazy world, huh?), but don't worry, It is only a matter of time before they implode.
They cannot be so wrong, and continue indefinitely.

Nice thought.
The guy [Phelps] and the group [Westboro Baptist Church] are offensive not only to Christians, but to ALL Americans. What repulses Christians most [at least in my case] is that these people are doing what they do in the name of God/Christ/Christianity and that they actually think they are RIGHT.

Side note: I honestly think that stuff like this is more what constitutes "taking God's name in vain". Using the name of God to advance an agenda like theirs is wrong. I think swearing and saying G.D. etc is a very minor example of using God's name in vain. I think Westboro, Phelps, et al are a MAJOR example of using God's name in vain.

The fact that they make all their noise at funerals but haven't the stones to confront a single LIVE Marine speaks volumes.

Picketing at a funeral is actually a criminal offense, so I would love to see them go to prison.

I think Fred Phelps would make a great "girlfriend" for somebody.

Yes. I think a class action suit would be perfect. Put them out of business once and for all.

Legally, yes they should be sued into inescapable debt.

In all fairness, they should be locked inside their church and have it burned to the ground. This should be televised nationally too. Religious freaks like this need to learn that the world will not tolerate their extremism. They can either respond to reasonable demands to back off, or they can be destroyed.

Believe what you want, any religion. But do not bother and burden other people with your beliefs. That is taking religion too far.
