My puppy spends equal amounts of time inside and out. We only see fleas every once in a while, and it actually hasn't become a problem yet. I just want to go ahead and end it before it does. I found some shampoo that seems to work, but what about in the house? She's still pretty much a baby and chews on everything, so what's safe enough to use inside? Also interested in home remedies... Thanks!

Flea shampoos don't tend to work, although they may fool people into thinking they work! No pet store treatments are good for killing fleas because stores aren't licensed to sell the appropriate drugs.

I'd get some proper treatment from your vet, for your dog and your house - Frontline, Revolution, Avantage and Acclaim are all good for your dog, get a house spray from the vets too.

I'm sure people are going to suggest sprinkling salt or Borax around your house - I wouldn't, because Borax is supposed to be kept away from animals and there is no reason salt would dehydrate a flea. The little light trap thing is also silly - fleas aren't attracted to light. They may well be attracted to the warmth of the light, but there's no point drowning the odd one when there are dozens more around - and hundreds of eggs!

If you keep her on Frontline or Advantix she will still pick up fleas but they will die after biting.
What you really want to do for indoor flea control is put some cut-up flea collar in your vacuum bag (never ON the dog) and vacuum floors and furniture regularly. Wash the dog's bedding every couple of weeks as well, dry in the dryer as the heat kills flea eggs.
You can set off flea bombs if it gets out of control, but if you keep the frontline on and vacuum regularly I predict no problem.
There are insecticides you can put on your yard in the spring when they begin to hatch again.

You have to treat all places your dog was at. I just had a bunch of them and they can be hard to get rid of. I had to bomb my house. If you sweep make sure you change the bag each time. The eggs will keep hatching so you have to treat again in two weeks. I used lice spray to spray down furniture beding ect. It works the same. Kills them and there eggs. If your dog has fleas, you have to get rid of fleas on it before the collar will work. They can become a bid headache.

You can get Frontline flea solution, which is a topical liquid that you put on the puppy, in hair in the back of her neck, down to her tail. As for the house, I believe their are flea powders to use on the carpet.

If you don't have small children you can buy powder or spray for the floor. But you have to Re-apply in two weeks for new hatchlings!!!
