No because there would have just been some other myth to fill its place.

They attempted to wipe out Christianity. they failed not because of lack of effort but because of the methods they used. It was much like the way the pro-democracy protesters in Myanmar are Being treated today. That is why grass roots movements are so powerful. They can be slowed down and kept in corners but no has ever found an effective way to stop it.

Rome did not really persecute the Christians much. A couple of emperors tried to suppress them. They certainly think people have it in for them, even though they run just about everything.

They found it more profitable to deceive millions by uniting their pagan religion with a few out of context Christian concepts, and create the unsaved catholic cult.
True Christians always exsited outside of the catholic cult, and you'll never succeed in wiping us out.
Catholics are not saved and are not Christians. Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1).
Bible teachers that said the Vatican and the catholic cult are an antichrist: John Bunyan, John Huss, John Wycliffe, John Calvin, William Tyndale, John Knox, Thomas Bacon, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Samuel Cooper, John Cotton, and Jonathan Edwards

That would only make the religion grow faster, with more superstitious beliefs and more extremist Christians.

It would not have mattered; some other flavor of religious silliness would have arisen in its stead. A lot of people like religion, even though it is logically unsupportable. For more on this, see:

And here is another one of many demonstrations of Chris' immaturity and obvious capability of copying and pasting.
To answer your question.... No. I don't wish that.
