I agree. It was decided at the Council of Nicea in 325 C. E..

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/augustine/arch/sbrandt/nicea.htm

It is NOT biblical in the OT, it was later written into the NT.

Apparently theres a lot of this "no logic" going around. The trinity was turned into Christian doctrine, as one answerer already noted, at the council of Nicea.

What a lot of people fail to understand though, is that just because Jesus is regarded by Christianity as part of God, doesn't mean they can be viewed interchangeably. This is something every pantheist should understand. Just because they are two aspects of the same being doesn't mean you can look at Parvati and Kali as the same, for example, or Sekhmet and Hathor. Example- i was teaching an art class to younger children, and the lesson was about the art of the Native Americans. I mentioned that some tribes thought Grandfather Thunder created the world, and I got a resounding "No! Jesus did!" No, even if you're a Christian, he didn't. The three in one doesn't go that far. Apparently some people think it does and are confusing their children with it.

Anyway, just in case anyone cares, the reason that Jesus is not considered to be the messiah by Jews is that the miracles he was tempted to perform- were actually the signs of the coming messiah- and he didn't perform them. So there you have it- for those resounding thumbs down givers, your daily dose of opposing viewpoint.

Well I believe that Jesus is God. No-one can prove it scientifically and if you do not accept the New Testament as axiomatic, there is no logical proof either. If you do accept the New Testament as axiomatic, then it is possible to deduce logically that he is God. I wrote an on-line book along those lines.

(For example, he demonstrated creative power to make new eyes and ears for people who could not see or hear, including people who were disabled from birth. He also raised several people from the dead, most famously Lazar(us) who had been dead 4 days and whose corpse was already stinking. He also demonstrated creative power when he created enough food to feed thousands and enough wine for a wedding. Then there was his own resurrection and ascension. The list is very long.)

Christianity started off with the idea that Jesus is God. Only later in the 4th and 5th centuries AD did this idea get watered down and confused somewhat by the Catholic church. As you can gather, I am not persuaded by these later innovations!

I never knew people thought Jesus was God.
The son of God, yeah, but not God himself. If that was the case then it would make evrything that the Bible states all wrong. Really though, I believe he was someone very special and was put here to help people see what we were doing was wrong and he was here to make a very big statement and lead us into another path. Who better to show us an example of right and wrong than Jesus Christ. Jesus taught me to love and care for one another and treat other people how you would want to be treated yourself. God bless him and all his followers. I WILL SAY THIS THOUGH, my personal belief is we all have a part of God inside us all, but we can develope the Devil's nature aswell. This is my example, do you share what God gave us equally or do you try to take more than you should, leaving others without anything? If you won the lottery tomorow, would it pass your mind to donate to charity? are you a selfish person or an unselfish person? it's consideration versus greed. I don't believe in taking something which is'nt yours. Because nothing is ever really ours is it. Everyting we see, hear, smell, taste and touch, was given to us by God. Money just controls things to a certain point. But I also believe that money has alot to do with the Devil's work. God just allows us to make our own decisions. Whether we choose to follow good or evil, it is up to us as an individual how we live our lives.

Maybe it is similar to how someone can be a father and son here on Earth.

That being said, all religions have derived from an idea with fragments of fact. It is interesting because the Bible was written by humans. In today's society, if someone wrote a book based on the voices that they were hearing, they would be considered insane. Add a deity to the mix, and everyone is rejoicing.

Because Jesus is God, In the old testament God says he will refer to himself as "IAM" and in the new Testament when they are questions jesus and say "how could you know abarham, he was born way before you" and jesus says "before he ever was, I AM"

John 1:1"In the beginning the word already existed. The word was with God, and the word WAS God."

Then flip down to:

John 1:14 "So the WORD became flesh and made his home among us..."

also flip to:

Titus 2:13 "While we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed."

John 20:28 "My Lord and my God" Thomas exclaimed.

God is very clear that there is ONE GOD. And he is it, so if Jesus is not God, that means all these passages I just quoted from are FALSE...please read them for yourself.

Then if you believe Jesus IS actually the "son" of God, you get the task of explaining why God would make a son, and favor him above all the rest of man, why would God choose HIM? And then you can explain how Jesus is Gods son.

Actually he more logical way to believe, is to believe that God became human. (jesus)

The disciples of jesus claimed that Jesus said he was God, died, and rose again.

We might not listen to them, but a) they were there and b) all but one died horrible deaths for that claim. If they KNEW they were lying about the resurrection, why didn't they recant?

You'll end up believing whatever you want to believe. You can believe that the council of Nicea voted on it bc they felt like it, against evidence, or you can look at the evidence and writings they based their vote on. But remember, people were saying he was the Messiah waaay before the council and the Catholic church. That's not the origin, that's just the way it was made "official" doctrine.

If you want the other side, I'd suggest "The Case for Christ" by Lee strobel. It's kind of arrogant to assume that we believe jesus is God with no reason or research. Of course we think, and of course we question. We just have open enough minds to believe and search.

There is no clear statement in the entire bible where Jesus, himself claim that he was God or worship him or he should be worshiped as God.

Added later:
I like to add some resonable explanation regarding some statement of Bible mentioned here by Tebone03.., Patrone0..

"And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:" (Mark 12:29).
(this is a very clear statement that God is one and only. Jesus also mentioned God as Father, because God created him without a biological father like Adam & Eve).

Jesus tells us in John 14:9 "he that hath seen me hath seen the Father".
(Here seen means to seen, observed, known, listened & understand his preaching about God. As he did not preach anything without God's approval. so if you have seen, observed, known, litsened about his teaching, you have seen how to worship your God).

"I am come in my Father's name" (John 5:43)
(Clear statement from an agent (Messenger) of Father(God)).

"I and my Father are one." (John 10:30)
(As a Messenger i am doing exactly what Father(God) asked).

Thomas responded to Jesus, "My Lord and my GOD!" John 20:28
(It was an surprised response ! please read the whole context).

The man bowed in front of Jesus and said, "I believe, Lord." John 9:38
(Lots of respected person & kings were called "Lord" to show respect by people, that does not means they were all Gods).

Hope you will find my explanations resonable, if you read carefuly the above mentioned statement of Bible with contexts.

Nicean creed. Everything else was retrofitted. That's when they also came up with the "three gods in one" dilly, like some sort of neopolitan ice cream. So you have to wonder, what were they smoking during that meeting?
Historically, the answer would have to be opium. And based on the silliness they came up with, it was a LOT of opium.
Good times, good times.

Even though the way you put this question doesn't deserve an answer.....I will tell where we get that idea...we got it from Jesus himself....

The Jews therefore said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple. (John 8:57-59)

"I and the Father are one." The Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?" The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God." (John 10:30-33)

And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me. And he who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me. I have come as light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness." (John 12:44-46)

And so when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments, and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for I am. If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet." (John 13:12-14)

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him." Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, 'Show us the Father'?" (John 14:6-9)
