You can transfer files and settings with Microsoft's File and Settings transfer wizard:

There are also lots of third party applications that do the same thing.

Transferring programs usually requires you to reinstall them on the new PC, unless you use disc cloning software:

That will give you an exact copy of your hard-drive to install on another hard drive. But if you're transferring to a different type of computer, this might not be the best way, because you'll also be copying all of the hardward drivers from the old PC, which might not work on the new PC. Usually just installing the programs individually is the best way. It's also a good way to eliminate all the programs that you have cluttering up your old PC but that you don't really need!

Most applications will need to be reinstalled. Software developers tend to make heavy use of the registry and shared libraries. While you could possibly copy the files and configuration information over, doing so by hand would be a tedious tasks. Worry about copying data and any user profile information and do a reinstall of the applications.

There are softwares that can do that. One that I know is Norton Ghost. You need an intermediate media such as a hard drive or DVDs.

1. Install Norton Ghost in your old pc.
2. Using Ghost, do a full backup of your old hard drive - to another hard drive or DVDs.
3. Install Norton Ghost in your new pc.
4. Restore the softwares to the new pc.
