To an extent, this seems to be an age-related question. I am a 55 year old male, and I grew up thinking of pubic hair as something sexual, not something to be avoided. (In fact, I still fail to see what's exciting about shaved genitals -- they make an adult woman look like a little girl, and I find that creepy to say the least. It's ironic that reaching puberty is taken by some as a call to look prebuscent.)
Here is a link to an excellent article that mentions this phenomenon, but goes a lot deeper. The author contends that the prevalence of porn has resulted in twisting male expectations about what to expect in women, not just in appearance but in behavior as well. And, she addresses your comment about feeling pressure. She feels lucky that as a 40 year old woman, she is in the last generation of women who were able to be appreciated for what they are, rather than being compared to the unrealistic standards of internet porn.

Among other things, she mentions that at her gym, the younger women are shaved and the older women have adult pubic hair.

Opinions on women's "hair down there" are so varied and complex it's like attempting to crack the secrets of the human genome. On one hand all U.S. porn stars all seem to be bare but women in Europe go natural. I've been full growth, shaved and landing strip at different times. A male friend, who has a post-graduate degree in biological sciences offered up this insightful opinion: "When I see a dark-haired woman such as an Italian with a full pubic bush it doesn't register much because you expect it. But when I see a true blonde with a particularly full bush I really take sexual notice because you don't normally correlate the two."

It really depends on the form of guys. For example, i personally am (I daresay) really moderately good-off in lifestyles with reference to economic issues and appears and i comprehend it (the main factor is I think that to be real, no longer that it's a fact). If a man has the sort of personality as I, then your assumption is right, they do not like chasing women down, on the grounds that there is a feeling that ultimately a good girl will come by using anyhow. However, it must be said for a lot of men who do not have such self-self assurance (or ego in some cases). Then it may be stated that females who are 'unavailable' (however who is not dating him at the time) appear more appealing because of the mystery and the usual propensity to realise/discover extra in regards to the girl. Judge for this reason whether or not the man you're thinking of is self-constructive to my degree, or any person who particularly wishes to find a girl. As soon as that judgement is made, you are going to know the answer to your question. Excellent success!

Michael M said what I wanted to say on this thread only better than I could. This IS an age related thing, whether to go hairless or not. I grew up in an era when chest hair on men and pubic hair on women were considered sexier and the norm to strive for.

Bare.. I think it plays a huge role in hygeine when a woman takes care of her self. I think its disgusting and I have been in a situation where she was not bare.. I got up and walked away.. Never spoke again..
It is not ok for a guy not to be the same way... A guy if anything should have his area trimmed.. but I like mine clean and bare as well.

this is actually a pretty good question. I think there is a lot of pressure for girls to be well groomed ( more so than for a guy). Perfect example of this is Vanessa Hudgens. She got a lot of crap for being a bit natural in that picture that came out, I saw a lot of really nasty comments from guys talking about how she needs to groom, etc...And she wasn't even that bad!! Unfortunately guys today have unrealistic expectations due to tv, magazines, internet. It's terrible.

Oh hell yeah I feel pressure to be bare and perfect. My ex would complain if I wasn't.
Then again, he used to shave as well - he actually shaved his balls. And it looked so stupid, because theres this big hairless patch, and then the rest of his body is all hairy.

Meh, I don't feel too pressured, at least not by my husband. I trim a bit, but only when I feel like it. I know of plenty of men who do expect their women to be completely bare or else they're completely turned off, and that's a bit strict.
But likewise, I know some women who expect their men to do things like wax their chests or they're out, and that's kind of strict, too. My husband and I like our bodies just as they are.
