They always ask you .. they don't always follow up (these days they are more likely to do a Credit Check on you) ...
Give the name of a good friend at your last place of work as a "Personal Reference".

Yea, you could use a friend or whatever, but if it's a job you plan to keep for awhile, just don't use one. I mean, people don't work 3 or 4 jobs before getting a career. I've only worked at 1 place long enough to use as a reference and I'm 18..

nope. One aerospace engineering job I got an offer for didn't ask for any. But they did do a background check and said I need to apply for a security clearance.

you probably would need one - either you could get a friend to cover for you & be a pretend one or you could be honest with the employees that you have changed & hada turning point in your life & thats why you dont have references etc.
It's a gamble but they may admire the honesty.

they usually ask you to put referees down on you're cv. it doesnt have to be a previous employer, unless they state it so you could get someone who is "respected in the community" to be your referee. Dont make one up cos they WILL find out!

it does help if you can get an employers reference, if not then ask your dr, teacher, policeman,or if the worst comes, then ask a friend. its as simple as that!
