I have visited and have decided that i want to move there permanantly from the UK, I was going to train as a teacher by doing a PGCE as I am led to believe that the points are high on this skill. Has anyone got any advice is this the correct route to get me into the country?

You would also need 4 years working experience to gain a permenant work visa and you need to save £1000 to give to the australian government as a gift of faith.
You also (I believe) have to go through an interview to assess your suitability.
Check the australian website and there are many sites that will gage your suitability based on your point scores.

Australia has a chronic shortage of certain skilled people for certain professions. Last I knew, even Hairdressers were in demand!
Best way to get up to date information is to check out the Australian immigration website out. Just type in yahoo search Australian Immigration and you should get the site.

yeah - doing a PGCE would be a sure-fire way of getting enough points to be given citizenship. also.. think you must be under 35, have no chest/Lung problems etc. You can check on the austrailian Immigration website.

good luck! (*hopes they don't think she's being sarcastic*)
I'm hoping to live up there when I'm older too, though right now I'm still doing my exams, lol.
Where abouts are you hoping to go?
My uncle works for a radio station up there so look out for 'Pete Dawson' *nodnod* :)
