We would like to start the adoption process, but the costs are so much! I heard of a couple who trained for a marathon and people "sponsored" them - they were able to raise $27,000. Do you think this is ethical??

Any other unique fundraising ideas? or quick money making ideas??

Thanks for your help!

You should consider other options, specifically, adopting from the foster care system. Why adopt from overseas? When there are so many kids in need here?

Adoption through the foster care system costs almost nothing. Don't believe the horror stories that the process is difficult or that all of the kids are 'damage' or 'high demand'. Most are great kids who have had a hard life and only need a loving home.

Save the money you would spend on the expensive, private adoption and instead use it to help a kid in need.

Edit - Our boys are 3 yrs and 1 yr old. It took two years from starting the process (getting a license as a Foster Home) to the completed adoption. Being willing to foster helped speed up the process, so did taking siblings. My sister went private and it took her almost as long.

Why do you think it is so expensive?

What do you recall from your Economics 101 classes and the subject of supply and demand?

In response to your ? - I believe fundraising for adoption is a true pity.

Raising children is difficult, have you considered making a difference in the lives of children by using your free time and resources to make a difference in the lives of some children you know in real life. Surely you have some relatives, friends, neighbors, maybe even co-workers who would love to have a night out, and you could entertain and play with the kids.

Fast 'turn around'?

Um, okay.

Did you ever wonder why adoption is so expensive? It's often corrupt and unethical. Your money will got to pay lawyers in Third World countries to get infants away from their desparate mothers.

How about a doughnut sale?

Sell things, get a second job, get a home equity loan. Cut down your expenses.

But I would say no to out right fundraising. I find it tacky.
