Plasma is better. Plasma's have better viewing angles, deeper blacks, and higher contrast ratios.

Anyone that says LCDs are better doesn't know what they're talking about. LCDs are cheaper than Plasmas, so most people own LCDs. So, most people will brag up LCDs because that's what they own, not because they're better. Ignore them.

Depends what you are going to use the Tv for. LCD are good for gamers and general TV viewing. Plasmas can deal with faster moving images better so are good for watching sorts and movies.
I you had to great makes of TV stood next to each other, the Plasma would have a better quality of picture. Some people think LCD is better but that is generally because Plasmas are more expensive to buy and are unable to afford them.

Hope that helps

It all depends on the size screen you want, You get a better picture on a small LCD screen than on a small plasma screen.

If you want a really big screen then go for plasma but plasma's on the whole don't last as long as LCD and are more problematic. However, saying that now 2nd generation is here they are better than they were 10 years ago.

It's often the other way around. Plasma is better than LCD. LCD is generally cheaper, which instantly makes it more common and popular. Good LCD is very good and most people will be happy with it, it's just that plasma does it even better than that.

In larger screens plasma is a clear winner.

Have a quick look at this from Panasonic, who will quite happily sell you either;

Plasma and LCD are both new technologies and are both as good as each other but for different uses, LCD's are recommended for gaming as they don't suffer from screen burn as Plasma screens can.
But for sport I would always recommend Plasma as they can deal with fast moving images much better and you get more depth.
Size is also a issue, Plasma screens start at 37" so there is no such thing as a small Plasma, LCD's can be from 14" to 63" but the bigger sizes are more expensive to make and buy.
You just need to buy what would best for your needs.

Wow. Lots of misinformation here.

First off, altitude matters for plasmas. Over 5500 ft., and the lifespan is 5-8 years of normal use. Over 8000 ft., it just doesn't work.
(There are plasmas made that overcome this, but they aren't often sold in the stores.)

If altitude isn't a problem, examine price. LCDs are generally more expensive than plasmas, but in my honest opinion it's worth it. If price is no object, look into Samsung TVs with the new Auto Motion Plus. I can guarantee it's the best TV you'll ever see.

Contrast ratio is nonsense. Go for the picture instead.

Overall, LCD is a much better technology - if you can afford it.

both lcd and plasma make a great picture, but they're both good in their own ways.

lcd is a liquid crystal display that makes a brighter, more vivid picture which is more appealing to us. it is better for gaming and is generally a bit less expensive. the matte texture screen causes no reflection of lights or windows in the room. however, you wont get true colors. blacks will look more blue or purple and skin tones arent as natural.

plasma is a phosphorus gas between two planes of glass. it has a faster refresh rate which would be good for sports or action movies. colors are more natural, good earth and skin tones and blacks are a true black. it is possible for an image to be burned in though. but that shouldnt happen with normal usages. if you're playing madden all day, you might get the logo temporarilly burned in, but it will fade eventually.

when deciding between the two, you need to consider what you will be using your tv for and also what kind of room you will be putting it in. also, when considering screen size, you would want to sit at least twice the distance of the diagnal length of the tv. enjoy!

Not much to choose between the two, as you can see, however as a rule of the thumb, up to 37" screen LCD rules, anything over that Plasma comes into it's own.

Plasma has a better picture especially in a dark room.

Go see models for yourself.

Keep this in mind: LCDs have very breakable PLASTIC screens. When broken no warranty no repair.
If you have kids DO NOT buy LCDs.
