Hi, I live in New Jersey, and the only time I've heard people call New Jersey "New Joisey" is when they were joking around. I've never heard anyone call New Jersey "New Joisey" because they thought that's how it was pronounced, or because they had a different accent. I have encountered several people who live in states other than New Jersey, and they wrongly assume that people in New Jersey will have some unique accent that no one else has. Maybe when New Yorkers say "New Joisey", they are joking about an accent that people in New Jersey don't actually have?
Well, anyway, if you ask anyone who lives in New Jersey where they are from, they will never say "New Joisey" unless they are joking around. We pronounce New Jersey the way that it is spelled.

Chocolate D is right.
Nobody here pronounces it that way and New Yorkers doing so aren't doing it out of accenting.
My grandmother was from NYC and any word having an "oi" in it such as oil or toilet was pronounced erl or terlit. Muck like Archie Bunker talked.

Same reason most people from England can't pronounce an "H" at the start of a word to save their life...ingrained speach patterns and accents.
Same thing happens to me when I go to Nova Scotia for a vacation...I come back with a light Scots burr, since it is prevelent there. :D

I think it's because their accents are so thick there that it's what it sound like. My roomate in college was from NJ, and she actually pronounced it that way.

We don't. Except maybe when mocking someone or an old Saturday Night Live skit.
