most newer cars have this feature. They call it a safety feature. My son s-10pick-up shuts down at 96 mph

Almost all newer cars have this feature. The problem is, the cut-off speed is too high. On MY car it's 105 MPH, and it SHOULD be in my opinion about 85 MPH. NO ONE needs to go any faster than that!

Did you also know most newer cars have a data recorder that ins co's can access in the event of an accident to see if you were speeding?

BS - I had an 05 Honda Accord and I know it would go 130 (well right at 128 anyway)

You can buy these for your car if you want to add it on -

PS to the guy who said 85 is the fastest you should be able to go - you are probably the ****** who does 5 miles over the speed limit in the fast lane on the interstate - I came VERY VERY VERY close to shooting an asshole like you about two weeks ago - and if I had been in my truck instead of my car I definitely would have ran the ****** off the road! - stay on the back roads gram-pa

NO!
Shutting OFF a car at any speed is extremely dangerous and equipping a car to do so would not be allowed.

However, governors that limit either engine speed or vehicle speed have been around for generations.

Yes, but this isn't a standard feature, they have to be added on (and paid for). The usual instance is for parents who allow their children to drive and they don't want them going past a certain speed limit.

There are also accessories that will have the vehicle computer notify a central database, which in turn notifies you immediately when a vehicle crosses a pre-determined speed limit (also for a fee).

These innovations, were brought about, because there is a direct correlation between excessive speed and young, inexperienced drivers and motor vehicle accidents resulting in serious physical injury and/or death.
