Interesting.
It always confuses me when Christians look at the Westboro Baptists, and claim they aren't 'true' Christians. When they are using the same bible for a source of doctrine.
The slogan "God Hates Fags" is condemned by most churches, but when you consider that he is planning on torturing them for eternity, it is hard to refute.
I agree with you.

They were not expressing ANYTHING that I feel in my heart and do not represent the thoughts and opinions of most Christians. The help that they need is some serious spiritual counseling and to be held accountable for their actions. As far as hate the sin and love the sinner, this is not something that only Christians do, everyone does this. Let me give you some examples:
A mother can hate when her child puts candy in his pocket at the grocery store and doesn't tell her about it, because he is stealing. The mother does not hate her child.
A wife can hate when her husband takes her for granted and show no appreciation for the things she does, she doesn't hate her husband.
A child can hate when their parent chooses work or socializing with others over spending time with them, the child does not hate the parent.
A husband can hate when his wife gets mad because he is working too many hours, but won't curve her spending so he can work less, the husband doesn't hate his wife.
These are just a few examples, there are many more that can be given. We can hate a sinful action, but still love the person committing that action. These people will now obey the laws of this land since they will not obey the laws of God.

While I don't think homosexuality is the way to go, and I do think that America could do a lot better at holding a moral line, and I do hate that we got into this Iraq war to begin with, I do support the soldiers fighting it, and mourn with their families and loved ones when they die. I feel that a funeral service is sacred and that protesting a funeral of any of our fallen heros is lower than low. And to say that this warrior died because America doesn't take a stronger stand on immorality ... I just don't get it.
So, you say that because I'm Christian I naturally support the nonsense spouted by WBC? I may be a conservative Christian, but I'm not some wacko nut job.
EDIT: lucky, WBC gives fundies a bad name.

they're Christians in simple terms by using accepting Jesus into their hearts, getting baptized and repenting usually. in basic terms Catholics have faith you apart from mght could carry out sturdy deeds to get inot heaven. maximum non-Catholics take the "lazy guy's thank you to salvation". The Westboro baptists are no longer any diverse than something.

To be clear, thinking someone is doing something wrong or something that is bad for them is not hatred.
Being so consumed by fear and Ego that you cannot respond to someone else's needs and feeling with empathy, in my opinion, seems a lot like hatred to me. I see that in the extreme in Westboro Baptist. But I see it a lot of places, it is a thing we humans do to each other all the time and it's always tragic.
Incidentally, this seems to be the kind of energy out of which you are lumping all of us together and attacking us. It's like a virus, don't let these screwballs turn you into something you're not. Nietzsche wrote, "When doing battle with monsters, see to it that you do not thereby become a monster yourself. For when you stare long enough into the abyss, the abyss will stare back into you."

Westboro Baptist Church and their group are NOT our brothers and sisters in christ.....
They are NOT expressing anything but THEIR own stupitiy.....
and you have a chip on your shoulder toward the Christian faith, so when a group of idiots does something you want to run out with a paint brush of condemnation for everyone....
It does not work that way.....
westboro baptist has shown by their actions and words that they are not christian or of the Bible.....they are no different than the KKK...dangerous and stupid....
you owe an apology to the christian community for lumping everyone into that paint brush...

Nice try. But those who profess hate like they do are not true Christians, they are taking parts of the Bible and disregarding the other parts.
As a Christian, I know that I am a sinner and have to look at myself and frankly only myself. If I point a finger at someone else, I have 3 fingers pointing back at me.

Although they are my brothers and sisters in Christ, I do not condone their activities. They need to be rebuked, for they themselves are sinning.
I do not have hatred in my heart for our soldiers. I have love, sympathy and kindness for our soldiers. Our soldiers do not deserve to have their funerals and the funerals of fellow commrades desecrated by a group of related people calling themselves a church.

I may not agree with their methods however that does not mean that they speak of what is not in the Bible. The Bible clearly states in many passages that homosexuality is wrong as well as fornication etc. Picketing funerals is clearly wrong as it shows that they do not respect the dead. They do spread hate which is extreme but I believe that they genuinely feel that they are doing God's work. However you may view them they are very determined.
