Pff, I kiss guy friend on the cheeks every day.. I'm in Europe.. and here it honestly doesn't mean anything.. not sure about America though.

i'd say a kiss on the cheek lets him know you think he is sweet and you like him but you should hug him then kiss him on the check thats even better again!! x

That will make him feel like you like him. That is a great way to take it good and slow. (thats a good thing, you don't want to give him the wrong idea) That is a really god way to make him feel really special. That was a good move on your part
