she may be going through her "Change of life! " :-)
or She maybe being called to go to her next life. I don't want that to make you feel sad or mad or upset but a lot of times animals know when their end is near and want to die under the stars in nature. It is beautiful really. Humans are so sedated and out of it and so use to not tuning into this aspect of the cycle of life that they aren't tuned in but it really happens to humans too~ they get a surge of energy and restlessness and clarity and want to "go out there."

I had a female cat that was spayed and evidently they must have left some part of the reproductive system that still gave off a scent, because all the male cats would come around and try to mate with her. She would fight them off but not without her being grabbed by the neck from the tom cats. I hosed the male cats down! It's a nuisance to hear these male cats' mating cries especially at night. The same thing might have happened to yours. At her age though, I would ask the vet but not put her through any surgery. Ever think about getting a dog to chase the cats away?

I believe that your "old lady" is just hearing all the "young ladies" outside, and wants to join in with them. I assume that this is brand new--and I also assume that this, too will pass--it's just a phase. As long as you KNOW that she was spayed, don't worry. Yes, I know this can get quite annoying, but in a few days this should stop. If it doesn't, and it sounds like there's a possibility that she COULD be in pain of any kind (and, yes--it's very hard to tell the difference between just "joining in" and being in pain, since we can RULE OUT being in heat) then, you need to call your vet immediately. Watch her--how does she act? Is she still as active and eating/drinking and using the litter box as usual? If any of this is slightly different--call your vet. Good luck to you.

Here's something new for you . . . Even though your cats was fixed, maybe she is "calling her babies". This can be true, even if you know she never had a litter.
My female, who is 10, has done this on occasion, in the middle of the night. I always check on her to see if she's ok. She always is, she's just wondering where the kittens are that she thinks she had. Your cat will be okay, just keep giving her your love.

Older cats can get dementia, just like older dogs. However, any change of behavior like this should warrant a trip to the vet for a full exam and some bloodwork, sometimes cats exhibit strange behavior when they are sick. If she checks out as healthy, then be sure to reassure her when she does this, and hopefully her episodes will be short lived.

It does sound like a 'change of life' thing. She just wants attention, lots of it.
But if she sounds like she's in pain, take her for a check-up. Though I really wouldn't worry right about now.
