Are you sure it is underweight and not just wiry? Some cats, like people, are naturally very thin. If your vet told you to "fatten him up," then he should have also given you advice, and perhaps a prescription food, to do it with.

The only advice I can give is to make sure there is a constant food supply--cat food, not human food. If it is vet's orders, you need to call him and find out what the healthiest way to do this is for YOUR cat.

This depends--did your vet tell you that this cat is UNDER-weight? Some cats such as Siamese/Siamese mix are naturally very sleek and thin. However, if the cat is TRULY underweight--feeding KITTEN food, both dry and canned should put weight on your kitty. But, before you do anything new, talk to your vet, make an appointment to have him/her checked out for worms or any other problem that might be the CAUSE of the kitty being underweight. Best of luck to you.

make sure he's healthy and has no worms. Worms live in the cat's belly and eat the food, so the cat doesn't get the nutrition, which will cause them to be thin..

OTher than that, jus make sure you feed him enough, if he's an outdoor cat, make sure wild animals aren't getting his food.. feed him some canned food, tuna, or treats once in awhile.. and he should be fine. LIke people.. some cats just have a high metabolism and are naturally thinner (wish I was one of those people HEH!)

What Sam said. There is a prescription high-calorie food that you can give your kitty: My vet prescribed some for a cat of mine who was very sick.
