I totally agree.
I met Kasey Kahne tonight, bought a 64 dollar car to meet him... and he was too busy talking to his PR guy to listen to me when I explained where I wanted the cars signed.
THEN, he signs both cars on the hood, in black (i had asked for the silver), and he didn't ever stop talking. I said thank you, and he looked at me quickly and nodded. I didn't see him look at me. I had already turned on my heel and walked away. He lost some serious respect tonight.
And whoever the girl was there, leading people out of where he was, when I complained to my dad how rude he was, she gave out this cackle laugh.

Compared to ANY other sport, NASCAR is by far the most friendly. With the increase in NASCAR popularity has come an increase in the demands of time on the drivers. Give them a break, they have alot of obligations...oh, and we have to race 500 miles or 500 laps that weekend too....And Mark Martin may be most obvious, but all drivers thank the fans...

Recent developments remind me of why Richard Petty is the King. He was the first driver to stay after the race was over and sign autographs until everyone had one. I remember one night at a race track, he signed autographs for hours. Now all drivers want to do is beat everyone else out of the track after the race is over. Granted, most drivers could never stay that long after a race, but it would be nice to see more of an effort. Most of the drivers do try and take care of their fans one way or another

Mark needs to thank his fans for all of his "I'm retiring" shenanigans he's pulled..... Just kidding, Mark is great.
I think that the drivers do appreciate their fans, and their fans know it. Should they say it more? That depends on the driver I guess.

Hmmm, funny you should pick Mark Martin out of the whole group of drivers as someone who shows appreciation to his fans.
In 2001 I took my son to a NASCAR signing event at the Malibu Grand Prix facility in Dallas, TX. His favorite driver, Mark Martin, was to make an appearance there, as well as then reigning Winston Cup Champion Bobby Labonte.
I don't remember the exact hours they were supposed to be there for, what I do remember though was that while Bobby Labonte made himself accessible to ALL the fans, you needed a special ticket to see Mark Martin. My son, 7 yo at the time, was devastated. Oh, we could see Mark Martin as he toyed around the track in a go-cart racing the owner of the facility and other celebs, but that was as close as we could get. He had more protection than the Pope! I also know he raced that go-cart way past the appointed time for him to go into the special room they had set up for the "annointed" with the special tickets to mingle with "His Holiness".
We did meet Bobby Labonte and got his autograph ( both of us decked out in #6 regalia), but on the way home (a very quiet ride, btw) my son told me he didn't like Mark Martin any more. He never cried, never said much, but from that day on he has been a Jeff Gordon fan, and despises Mark Martin.
On my part, I wrote to Mark Martin conveying this story, and never got a response. Like I said earlier, funny you should pick Mark Martin out of all of NASCAR.

Most (not all) drivers think that the fans owe them.We the fans sit in the stands cheering our favorite driver on and buying souviners with his likness on it.We drive with his bumper sticker and decals adorn to our car.Yet when it comes time to see him or get an autograph forget it if you don't have a ;fan club pass;arm band;preassigned number or one of the first 100 in line. This is not fan freindly.
Mark Martin he knows that the fans got him to where he is,we the fans have stood behind him and he knows it.

Tony Stewart got a fine for openly recognizing his fans when he remarked about all the bu!!sh*t they put up with! I think a lot of it is situational in the interviews.
