Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes fatigue, pain in the muscles and ligaments (the bands of tissue that connect bone to bone), and tender areas in certain points of the body.
Around 9 out of 10 of those affected by fibromyalgia are women. In most cases, fibromyalgia develops between the ages of 30 and 60, but it can develop in people of any age, including children and the elderly. Around 1 in 100 people develop fibromyalgia at some point in their life and there are around 14,700 new cases in the UK each year.
The name fibromyalgia comes from the Latin word fibro, meaning fibrous tissues (tendons, ligaments), my meaning muscles, and algia meaning pain. The condition used to be known as fibrositis, which literally means inflammation of the muscles and soft tissue, but was renamed fibromyalgia in the 1980s because studies found there is no inflammation or nerve injury.
It can occur at any age so having it at your age is not much to worry about. Although there is no cure for this, the best thing you can do to help is by doing low impact exercises and having a regular sleep pattern. If the pain gets too much sometimes, then obviously have a pain killer or you can get Low-dose tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitryptiline - these can ease pain and help with disturbed sleep or Mild tranquillizers such as diazepam - these can treat anxiety and muscle spasms. I know it sounds scary having being told something like this when you are still young but you should count your self lucky that you can still do everything and your not as unfortunate as some people out there. Hope this helps and hope the pain gets better.

Fibromyalgia is a sort of compliation of various vague and unpleasant symptoms all over the body. Last I knew, there has not been any definitive word on what causes it or how to "cure" it. What may be of use to you is something more along the lines of pain management. Keep in mind that all pain is an emotional experience. Learning how to cope with the intense feelings associated with the physical pain--as well as with other emotional issues--may help you to be able to tolerate that experience. In fact, through things like journaling about your feelings and experiences, you may be surprised to find a reduction in your experience of pain!
Best of luck!

Relax. It's normal. Well not normal but common. My mother (47) has it along with my pregnant sister (24 this month). I am 19 and I may have it also (it runs in my mother's side of the family). My sister also has chronic fatigue syndrome. I have scapula thoracic bursitis and my mom has rhuemtoid arthritis.

basically wait and spot (greater convenient stated than finished), endometriosis is not any comedian tale and the scarring linked with the surgical technique, the two bodily and mentally, is not any comedian tale. communicate including your better half, enable her understand the type you experience, i've got self assurance something may be worked out. individually I even have not been subjected to the female problems you point out, yet my sister has had, after 2 surgical procedures, an entire hysterectomy and he or she had "all of the themes" linked with the sexual part of it. So persistence will pay off, God Bless.

Yes, for the past two years every muscle in my body hurts so bad, I was refered to several different doctors, (mri's, x-rays, nerve tests, cat scans, blood tests) first they said Lyme's disease, (after three tests they ruled it out) then nerve damage, brain damage, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis (found antibodies) one doctor said it was subjective (in my head)...finally last week I was tested by a new doctor, he said it's fibromyalgia and prescribed Lyrica, it hasn't helped the pain, he said it could take two months, I sure hope it works soon.
Good luck to you.

Yes, I have heard of it. There's a med for it that's currently being advertised on TV where I live.
Sorry to hear that you have it. My understanding is that it's quite painful at times. Hope you are able to get it treated and lead a good quality life. ☺
