How politically active are you?

In the age of rampant sonsumerism and materialism in today's world, political participation (outside of just voting) is on the slide.

So how politically active are you? Do you write letters to your local council, do you participate in protests against the Bush ad....I mean government (any government)!, do you discuss politics with freinds and colleagues? how politically active are you?

Just received monthly newsletter from US Senator, I write many more letters to the representatives then here.
I'm fed up with both "parties" but I am a "liberal" for I believe if the concept "for the good of ALL"
Take the mortgage industry (a democrat pet) how can we have a bailout exceeding $500B in early '90's and to "fix" the problem our esteemed Congress further de-regulated the industry and now we have record foreclosures AGAIN.
0 down, no employment check, over valuated properties, geeezz no way to see this disaster coming, huh.
Sorry, yes I for one write to the authorities.
Sorry one question, if mortgage loans were based upon adequate collateral would there be ANY lose if not minimum?

I am an active member of my county Democratic Central Committee, a member of the local democratic club, sign petitions, write letters and emails to my elected officials, financially support the take back the red states campaign and discuss politics all the time. I know someone is going to say "get a life" but I also have a life!
And I always vote and harass those who don't.

I am active only to the extent that I debate.

I used to be much more active than that, belonging to a few partisan political clubs/organizations, and actively trying to "turn out the vote" for my party. And, of course, I used to vote.

But then the Supreme Court decided to steal an election, so I quit. I figure that if the Court won't allow the votes to be counted, if they won't allow the election officials to figure out which candidate had actually won the election, I don't see any point in voting any more.

So for me politics is now just a spectator sport, rather than a participatory sport. I watch and I comment, but that's it.

I have marched or rallied for one cause or another in Washington, Tampa, Miami, and Orlando. I have written my Government Representatives on big and small issues. I have written letters to the editor on a number of topics including immigration, the federal marriage amendment, gay adoption, taxes, religious and cultural tolerance, and education. Many of my letters have been published. I have campaigned for socially responsible candidates. I have signed petitions, I have collected petition signatures. I have given some of my money and some of my time to organizations out to make the world better.

Consumerism and materialism aren't an anathema to civic participation. Quite the opposite in fact - the higher income/spending middle classes are much more politically active than those on low income.

I vote every election.

I write letters to newspaper and they are published.

I am now running for US Congress on the Green Party ticket in Illinois.
