I don't know about Donegal, but I expect everywhere has had the same progress as Mayo. I was over in Achill Island some weeks ago, and there were lots of changes, houses springing up like mushroms, new businesses, plenty of signs of the affluence the Celtic Tiger has brought. You might not recognise it as the same place as in the 80s.

Virtually every town in Mayo can say the same. I remember a few years ago there were four hotels in Westport. There could be eleven or twelve now. Schools bursting at the seams with children - businesses expanding and more anxious to come in and open - job opportunities for foreign nationals as well as our own people. And so far, we are still the friendly laid-back people we always were.

It's time you came back for another visit.

Achill Island. I've been there, it's lovely.

Most places have changed, especially along the coast. A lot of new houses and holiday homes have gone up in many places, I doubt very much that the places you have mentioned will be any different. Surely you have cousins in these places who can tell you what they are like?

Apart from more house they're as you left them.Letterkenny, the main town in Donegal on the other hand has gone from a one horse town to a thriving, car mad, shopping sprawl surrounded by thousands of newly built houses, some of them enormous and every weekend is inundated with club goers. You wouldn't recognise it.You're welcome.
