I am a cancer survivor and want a tattoo to express my struggle with this disease. Latin not only sounds beautiful but should keep the message personal.

Also if you can help with these other two lines. "Show me the way to forgive" and "Allow me to be forgiven" I used an online translator and got "ostendo mihi quam remitto" for the first one. Is that as close as it gets? I couldnt quite match the second line.

Pain is an illusion = Dolor somnium est. 'Somnium' is, strictly, a dream; hence anything unreal.

Show me the way to forgive = Me ostende viam ignoscentis. Literally, 'Show me the method of forgiving.'

Allow me to be forgiven = Sine mihi ignosci. (Wth thanks to Terentius).

I've only been learning Latin for 2 months sorry.

All I can say is stuff like "coquus est in horto laborat" or whatever.

Sorry but good luck with it. I wouldn't trust anyone here to give you the 100% correct answer though. Find out from a professional.

I am a professional, and I'll give you the right answer.

Though I am professor of Roman History, I minored in Latin and speak it fluently.

The word illusion comes from the Latin "illudere", which means to mock. So, you would most likely say "Illudo dolor", which translates to "I mock pain".

"Show me the way to forgive" would be "Vis ostendas quam remittere est?", translating properly to "Will you show me what it is to forgive?"

and, "Allow me to be forgiven" would be "Vis permittas remettere." which translates to "Will you allow me to be forgiven?"

There's no way to say exactly what you want to say word for word in Latin, as the grammatical structures used in English were not used in Latin.

The way I have presented these translations is the way that I would have expressed these thoughts were I having a conversation with someone else in Latin.

dolor praestigiae est. (the word for illusion is the same as that for a conjuring trick).
ostende mihi quomodo condolere posse. (show me how to be able to forgive).
sine me quomodo veniam merere (show me how to earn forgiveness).
