The Ruger P345 is one tough, reliable handgun. I like Rugers because you get MORE than what you pay for. Rugers are very well made and as tough as anvils, and they are significantly less costlier than many of their competitors. Also, the fact that it chambers the .45 acp makes it all the better.
Gunblast.com (one of the better independent firearms sites on the web) has a really good article on the P345 at the link below.

From the list I would go with the Px4 Storm. I do not like .40 caliber. To much of a snap in the recoil for me. I would stay away from the S&W autos. I had and many of my friends have had issues with them. I have a friend that owns a Ruger and loves it. Uglier than dirt in my opinion, but damn if it doesn't shoot every time. I would also suggest the Springfield Armory XD Series.
As for ammo, nothing less than 9mm. As for the .40, I think the .45acp and 9mm are much smoother than the .40.
Hope this helps and feel free to email if I can help again.

For CCW the idea is small frame, but not low power. If you have the extra money look into the Sig Sauer P229 series in something more powerful than .380 or 9mm. I know these both can kill, but I compared both .380 and 9mm in a penetration test by using plastic water containers filled with gelatin. I was shocked to see the results of both calibers fall far short of my expectations. I ended up with a .357 mag, but I am a large person who can handle the mag. A .40 would do the trick, but I would look into Ruger or Sig before S&W. I had some serious jamming problems with my S&W .40 and promptly sold it.
Good Luck and be careful

S&W mp 40 is a good firearm, don't listen to that other guy. Smith and wesson did go thru a bad period, but the company was bought and all quality is great now.
I personally do not like Beretta anymore. I had a couple of problems with two of their pistols. I could not get them to group better than a basketball sized group at 27 yards. I sent them back to beretta, who returned tham saying they were "within specs". Also, my brother, while serving in the big sandbox, had cause to need his beretta sidearm quickly, this pistol was cleaned and taken care of 3 times daily, when he drew it and pulled back the slide to chamber a round, it jammed and would not clear, luckily, a SAW gunner stepped in and hosed the bad guy before he killed my brother.
The ruger, is a fine weapon too, rugged, reliable etc. My only complaint with ruger, is that for people like me with big hands, you cannot get any type of overlarge or extended controls like you can for most other pistols, and Ruger seems to make their controls smaller than other manufacturers. In my humble opinion, I'd carry the S&W in a heartbeat, with the Ruger being my second choice. Also, I encourage people to carry the .40S&W cartridge over a .380 ( of course my personal choice is the .45acp) but the .40s&w is a good choice.

I would not go with the S&W even though everyone is raving about the M&P. S&W has a terrible track record. Out of what you have sugested my advice is a beretta PX4 storm in .40.
I however am partial to sig sauer. You might want to consider the p229 or if you want something smaller a p232 or p239.

I would look at the Beretta 84 .380 w/high cap magazines for concealed carry out the ones you've mentioned.
Best.
