Someone asked me this the other day. Her in the eastern US we associate south with summer, fire , etc. becasue that is where it is hotter and north with winter, cold etc. becasue that is where it is colder but in the southern hemisphere, is it reveresed? I thought it was an interesting question. Anyone know? Do directional associations change based on your geograpihcal location?

Different paths use different correspondances, and even different people within the same path may use different correspondances. The most well known system was taken from the Golden Dawn (air to the east, fire to the south, water to the west, earth to the north). Some people have argued that while that set up makes perfect sense in England, it may make no sense in the US. Personally, I use the same arrangement and I am in Wisconsin, and I feel very "off" if I use any other arrangement, even though the large bodies of water are to my north and east, not west.

Unless you're a ceremonial magician, in which specific correspondances are very important, I would say go with your gut, but also know why you use the arrangement you do. For me, for example, I find my arrangement neatly fits with other cycles as well (north is earth and winter and midnight, east is air and spring and dawn, etc)

In the southern hemisphere, the directions are reversed, at least I know N and S are...Also, the wheel of the year is altered to fit their geographical and weather conditions.

Most pagan faiths grew organically in cultures to honor what was taking place in the natural world around them. So they are best practiced today with that same idea in mind, to help us stay connected spiritually with nature.

I have spoken to pagan's in New Zealand who adjust sabbats to fit their seasons & geographical locations.

I agree with "Eiere", the wheel is altered to fit your area. It's not a written in stone type of thing.
