I read about this today(court case decision announced): In 2006, Kansas Baptists from Westboro attended the funeral of a US Marine who died in Iraq. A US MARINE WHO DIED FIGHTING IN IRAQ !!! (just wanted to be clear about that). They cheered his death at the funeral, and paraded signs saying "You're going to Hell" and "God hates you" ...at his funeral... a US marine who died in Iraq. Why ? Because he was Gay.
No matter how against your religion homosexuality is, you do not go to a funeral and do these things, not if you claim to be Christian. How did it ever come to this ? If they'd have stopped to ask "What would Jesus do ?" , surely He would simply have prayed for the marines' soul.

You can't classify all American Christians according to the actions of one extremely small group of people. The Westboro Baptist Church has very few members, and most of them are related.

Most American Christians are appalled at the actions of the WBC.

I heard about this too, And like a few others have said, he wasn't gay.
These protesters are lunatics. Anyone who can show up at a funeral for a United States Marine and protests with picket signs saying "God hates America," "You're going to hell" and things like that, at a FUNERAL, have no common sense or respect for anyone.
The most idiotic thing about these protesters, they think innocent soldiers dying while serving the country is America's punishment from God for tolerating homosexuality. (Most of the soldiers dying probably aren't homosexual)
They must believe that we should turn them into slaves or something since they can't accept the fact they have equal rights.
Just so you know, this is not how true Christians behave. They would be praying for peace and as you mentioned, the Marines soul and family.

Mostly, people have forgotten Jesus, and started thinking about themselves.
Marine, Gay, Straight, or left handed. He was doing a good deed trying to help people who have never experienced
FREEDOM. My blood boils at this kind of inhumanity.

To your broader question - the American Media about as left-wing godless and amoral an organization as ever existed; has done a great job IMO by anointing certain Christian spokesmen (ala Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson) - hateful, bigoted and intolerant - knowing they could appeal to their pride and egos to discredit our faith wholesale.

Really very sad at how quite successful they have been.

And shameful - at how these vain religious leaders allowed themselves to be so used.

These people are doing things wrongly and should instead be showing Christian love to others so others can see their good deeds and turn to God but this just turns people away from religion

If Jesus prayed interior the lifeless of night, closed his eyes to what the church became doing, and was hoping no one observed him, issues could be very plenty diverse at present. rather, Christ prayed in front of villages and forged out demons (confident, there incredibly are demons,) he instructed the church that what they're doing became incorrect, (and that they are those that asked the Roman government to crucify Him,) and he became continually traveling city to city preaching, (in certainty, his boat became just about sinking for the duration of a typhoon and that's while Peter began to stroll on water.) if your perspectives do no longer precisely line up with Jesus's perspectives approximately what a Christian would desire to be, ask your self what faith you're following.....i'm no longer spouting off like i'm top, this is genuine or fake, yet i ought to truly care much less what you think of of me, its the place you finally end up and that's what Jesus asked human beings, to tell human beings approximately God. those Yahoo solutions have been relaxing for me considering many human beings e mail me and say how "uneducated i'm or how plenty I actual have indignant them...." while you're taking Yahoo solutions that heavily, then why did you write your question on the internet the place a great number of human beings ought to share their opinion, I ask. factor is, my purpose is to share the Gospel, to no longer make acquaintances, so optimistically you have heard now, and could share what you realize with human beings.

Actually, the young hero was not gay.
These church members attend military funerals to say that the kids died because the USA condones homosexuality.

It isn't Christianity, it is a cult.

If you go to a Military funeral in you area and they protest, please hurt them.
Include women because they are the craziest of the group, exclude children.

Actually, the marine wasnt even gay. There point is that their god is punishing the US for not killing all the gays. They have even stated that 9/11 was the fault of gays. Personally, I hope they all just go missing one day.

I've noticed that people tend to take the bible way too seriously. If anything it should be a loose guide to how you live your life as a good person, rather than a strict set of laws that you must enforce by any means necessary.

feelings are a natural thing for us to experience. Fortunately we are givin many rights in the USA.
unfotunately some people use the right to demonstrate.
i was mad about something and people kept saying.......give it to god.
so i did and he let me know that it is alright to have feelings so i chose MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
then man taught me the difference between being mad and being hateful.
god understands mad but hate is the act of a sinner.
though we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of god.
Even hateful people are gods children and we should pray for them and let freedom stand.
WE should always remember that we owe that freedom to our armed service.
