why do people think that just because a person has gastric bypass, they are going to efforetlessly keep weight off for life and not have to diet and exercise? have these people really looked into what it's like after surgery for these people?

Yes, there is a several month period where the weight comes off easily, but if you don't eat right and exercise, it comes right back when your body adjusts to the changes, and those that do what they are supposed to do keep it off, those who don't, gain back.

I had gastric bypass almost 3 years ago & I have to eat very carefully and exercise just like everyone else because I gain weight just like before. I can't eat sugar, I can't even eat cereal without getting sick.

I guess I just want to know how many gastric bypass bashers actually know what the procedure does to a person and what makes them think the weight just magically stays off without effort, where did that idea come from for those who think that?
thanks.

I dont think its an easy way out

in fact now before they will perform GBS it is required to lose a significant percentage of body weight before they will perforem it, as people who dont honor the new stomach size will die. So it is necessary to demonstrate self control before they can even do it now, at least in California it is.

I personally believe that if you can do that, you can keep doing it adn perhaps bypass the bypass surgery, but i guess some folks want to feel like they MUST do it or they wont.

Easy way otu its not, actually its pretty hardcore and risky. Yet as that dr who answerted you said, its down to ppl who will die if thye dont lose weight.

as to where did the idea coem from. where do most of ppls stupid ideas come from? i agree ignore the morons

If people think that having gastric bypass is taking "the easy way out", then they are severely misguided and ultimately mistaken in their understanding of the procedure.

Saying that the procedure is ridiculous because there is no point in being fat to begin with is folly, and people can do that if they want if it makes them feel better about themselves, but their is no humane reason to try and remedy someone's life-threatening situation by telling them that they shouldn't have gotten in that situation to begin with. The only right thing to do is provide a solution, not a lecture on the evils of being fat.

As a doctor I know that gastric bypass is a dangerous and complicated surgery, and is only given to people who are obese to the point that it is hazardous to their health as a means of saving their lives. It is by no one means the easy way out. In fact, it is the safest way out, as an alternative to spending a year or two exercising the excess weight off, all the while going through severe mental anguish because of their situation and being at constant risk of developing severe, life threatening conditions associated with obesity.

To answer your question once again, people see gastric bypass as taking the "easy way out" simply because they don't understand, and don't comprehend the reality of being in the situation of someone who must choose the surgery or possibly their own life.

Pay no attention to them, in fact, just tell them they're dumb.

most people who get one just ate and ate till they were morbidly obese so now they don't wanna lose it themselves cuz they "can't" as they put it.....but they don't try.....and u know that's true! there's no reason 2 be fat 2 begin with except 4 stupidity.....so having the dr fix everything so that u can start from scratch IS the easy way out! if u don't wanna be fat....DON'T eat 15 meals a day.....!
