There's chlorine in your water. Some teas that is the only way you can get them. I think it is safe as any other thing but I could be wrong. The best thing you can do is go back the mailing list you got the message and find out where it come from.

Did you know they are allowed to have a certain number of rat hairs in bread. They cannot fumigate flour so they are allowed to many before it's deemed unsafe. Most city drinking water has chlorine added to keep it safe. If there is an emergency and you have to boil your water but don't have a means to do it, you can add chlorine, Clorox Bleach, to water 1000 parts water to 1 part bleach to sanitize your water. Get over the fear and just enjoy your tea!!

Tea bags are made from a special type of paper. They are safe to use even though the paper is chemically treated. I buy the Lipton tea bags that are pyramid shaped (a different type of material) or I buy loose tea & use a mesh tea ball to brew mine.

they're safe.. if you are concerned, get the better quality tea bags which are nylon, but expect to pay up to 5x more for them. You not only get a better tea bag, but a better loose tea usually.

Another chain letter urban legend! Food manufacturers and producers can only use certain materials in their products which have been carefully tested, often over years, so treat your message like the garbage it is .......and bin it!
