Why would you ask that? I'm not a religious person or nothing but do believe in god. I have no problems with religions, I don't like being preached to, but I do find it very interesting and I don't think religion should be forgotten and I'm pretty sure it will not be forgotten either. How can anyone ban religion anyway? It should not be any one person's decision I believe

Once you've gotten rid of all the religions (along with the quasi-religions such as communism) then the world would be more peaceful.

Actually getting rid of them though is going to be a rather big problem, the number of people identifying as non-religious is increasing though so if we just wait long enough religion should die off on its own which is going to be a lot better than trying to force the process along by banning it (any attempt to ban religion will probably provoke the religious into acts of violence).

So banning religions will be a violent process and it is also likely to take several generations (since as others have noted religion will go underground so you'll just have to wait for the closet religious to die off while preventing their kids from being brainwashed too much). If you aren't fully into persecution then you lose (the problem the Roman Empire faced was that when they persecuted religions they did it half-heartedly so that the persecution makes the members of that religion pull together and become fanatics but doesn't get rid of it, if you want to wipe out a religion you've got to follow the example of the Christians who relentlessly attack other religions until they are truly gone and to be honest I doubt atheists can get the kind of immorality needed for that (even communists didn't seem to be immoral enough)).

Then to make matters harder there is also the fact that the non-religious are the minority group who also don't have control over the majority of the planets weaponry which is a small practical matter. Some day we'll probably reach the stage at which religion is so marginalised that it can be banned without causing too much trouble but by then it probably won't need to be.

For a person of this world it may sound like a good idea. But in reality Christianity preaches peace and tolerance but then again there are those who call themselves Christians and do the opposite. There is 2 forces God and the devil, good and evil, peace and war. You can hate religion but without it this world will be fast approaching destruction from its own sinful ways.

I really wish it was that simple, unfortunatley the evil isn't from the religions but the people that interperet them, I am sure that if Christianity/Islam etc.. failed to exist people would go to war in Buddha's name! get rid of that and we will go to war in the name of Secularism or feminism.

The World is not peaceful as Humans are warlike, it is the one thing throughout all history we have been good at, there was war before religion and there will be war after it.

However Yahoo Answers may be more peaceful!

impossible you have countries that don't allow baptist's to be out in the open. People are getting persecuted all the time, they are willing to die to serve the Lord. So you could ban it all you want but people will still worship. So no it would make it more violent because we people of whatever religion would be persecuted and it would depend on the severity. Maybe death? or maybe imprisonment?

I don't think that banning religions is the answer. It will only create militants and fanatics of all kinds and make things even worse. I think the solution is to teach children to be freethinkers at an early instead of feeding them all this supernatural bs.

Nope.

Look at a few examples.
North Korea. China (not so bad if they can stop infusing everything with lead). Former Soviet bloc.

And in general there would be an Unrighteousness never seen before on the planet. Instead of peace you would have Chaos.

Well yeah, but I don't mind having the peaceful religions around.

Anything that is baned just goes underground and ferments into more corruption. Look what happened when they banned drugs. Rather than banning there is a need for people to rise above the need for leadership and find their god within themselves.

Who would do the banning? The Government? Who would feel more peaceful? Non-religionists? That's the problem with out lawing something because it offends or upsets someone.... What happens when something you like or believe in upsets someone? It upsets me that people don't believe in Jesus. Should I push for the government to outlaw non-belief? I believe that even if I believe that it will be bad for you in the end, you're free to believe whatever you want. The main problem I see with non-belief, however is that those that hold to it seem to require the kind of tolerance of believers that they are not willing to show themselves.
