Give www.bhphotovideo.com a try, I have been a satisfied customer for some 25 years. Great prices, Professional staff, low S&H fees, consumer product reviews and last of all, some product demos.

If you are an experienced photographer, buying on-line makes sense.

If, however, this is your first SLR-type camera you might be better off buying from a professional camera store.

Why?

Because you'll be face to face with a knowledgeable person who can explain different features and benefits of the camera, answer questions, solve problems and offer intelligent advice. Plus, many stores now offer an hour or two of instruction with your purchase. Kind of difficult to get that level of service on-line.

If you do buy on-line, try keh.com, samys.com, bhphotovideo.com, cametacamera.com. Be very suspicious of a seller offering the camera and lens you want at some ridiculous low price.

Why?

1) It could be a "gray market" camera which means the warranty is only good in the original country of purchase. So if you're in the USA or Canada or England and buy from a seller in China your camera has to be returned to China for warranty coverage.

2) The seller may have removed everything that was supposed to come "in the box" and then offer to sell it to you at an inflated price.

3) You may be a victim of both of the above.

Check a review of your camera at shutterbug.com or dpreviews.com and see what should be in the box with your camera. Make a list or print out the review.

Ask, BEFORE you buy , if the camera warranty is honored in your country. Unless you get an enthusiastic "YES!" keep shopping. Don't accept "Well it has a manufacturers warranty."

Happy shopping!

B&H is a good site, I also really like Adorama. Both are really good, reliable sources and have been around for a LONG time. Also if you ever get something and you don't like it, they will let you return it. I would recommend going by your local pro shop and picking the brains of the people there. If they're anything like the pro shop near my office, they people won't try to screw you over and sell you more camera/lens than you need.
