Because if you don't, you can really make yourself look stupid by misinterpreting what the asker was trying to get across. The same thing also occurs when a question is put to a specific group, and you answer it anyway, as if you didn't see who the question was targeted to.

I guess I have to delete my question now, since no one bothered to read the very short details, and made wrong assumptions.

Ofcourse i read the details. If one intends to answer and help then the person automatically looks for more details.

Your question is good. Dont delete it.

:)

Usually. But considering that the "question" details are usually a rant and not a question, not always. Most of the "questions" in this section are really statements. Guess it's back to grade 1 grammar.

I think sometimes you also have to blame the questioner for posting a very unclear question.

It's not any one particular group. I've seen misplaced answers from both Christians AND atheists for example, although one group tends to do it more than the other.

I had some bozo go on a rant over a question I addressed to Catholic *Brides* of all things...I couldn't tell by his answer if he was religious or not.

If the details are too long I tend to breeze over them.
I may answer the question wrong and look like a fool but I don't really care ,it's not as if anyone here really knows me.
By the way what was the question again ?

I see that a lot in people's answers. And you're right, a lot of people do make themselves look very stupid. But that's okay, because I read the details and, in addition to being able to answer the question coherently, I get to make fun of these other people besides.

I always read the details for any question I answer. I often even ignore the question in the main heading to comment on something in the details.

For example, your opposition to people answering questions which were directed at a group they don't currently belong to is rather illogical. In many cases, the people who are most capable of providing an accurate answer to a question are not those who the question was directed to. Your opposition to their answers is like deliberately burying your head in the sand.

I didn't see the previous question, but I have noticed that many people answer without reading the details indeed. I think they are so concerned on making points that they don't mind making no sense or babbling...

Peace!

Unless it's a novel, then yeah.

(You should have put a test in here. In the middle of your details give us all a code word to repeat in the answer to show we read it. LOL)

i know the question to which you refer...well over half of the people who answered did not read it thru before flipping out! sad, truly sad...even one of the people responding to this question as if they actually read the questions before responding, went ahead and mad himself look foolish.
no, DON'T delete the question-leave it up as a testimony to the biases and ignorance of too many on this forum...dorothy parker (known for, among other things, being able to make a risque quip out of anything) once was challenged to make something 'doity' out of the word 'horticulture'...her reply is apropos...
