Sounds like something's been damaged in the amplifier section and the protection circuitry is being triggered. Probably a burned output device / amplifier IC. A few other parts tend to become damaged when one blows.

You'll have to send it to a Denon service center or find an authorized shop in your area on the Denon web site. Replacing it might be a better option compared to the cost of repairs and possibly shipping.

Most receivers develop problems over time when used with speakers rated under 8 ohms or when they are run for too long past the point of clipping where the amps run out of power and the output becomes distorted. A short from a frayed speaker cable touching the case can also cause damage.

When you disconnected the speakers - did the unit stay stable?

Check the speaker wires at BOTH ends. I suspect you have some strands of copper sticking out somewhere behind a speaker and this causes a short.

Trim and neatly re-connect the wires to the speakers.

Trim and neatly re-connect the L/R speakers to the receiver. Turn on music and listen for a while. If the receiver works fine, turn it off, connect the center, turn on and listen.

Slowly add in speakers until you find the one causing the problem. It could be that wire, or a shorted speaker.

Let us know what happens.

PS: You have lots of empty space above your receiver? Right? People seem to think they can stack a DVD player, CATV box right on the receiver, then wonder why it dies after a year of being cooked in it's own heat.
