Fred and his Westboro Baptist Church have been at several other funerals cheering and laughing. The one thing that is overlooked is that they are all veterans of the Iraq war. I am a retired Air Force pilot. Anyone who voluntarily serves his country and gives the ultimate sacrifice deserve an honorable funeral and kindness shown towards his family and friends. I thought that being a good Christian was to give kindness and light. This "church" is not Christian. I also thought that being Baptitst means being born again. If that is true then, Fred must be Jim Jones reborn again.

I just cannot begin to think how much Jesus must be hurt by the actions of these fanatics. They in no way show love for others and this is definitely no way to try and reach and teach someone about salvation. How sad.

I've seen reports on them several times and how they protest at the cemeteries of soldiers who have died in Iraq but thankfully, the Patriot Guard also attends these funerals and have so many members, they can completely block the protestors from the gravesites. The protestors are not allowed on the cemetery property but the Patriot Guard is :) I've received pictures in my email a couple of times and it is so touching to see how they blocked them from the families view with flags and I believe they play patriotic music to drown out them out. They do a wonderful job of supporting the families and protecting them as much as they can from these hate mongers. My applause to the Patriot Guards.

You can see many of the pictures that have been downloaded for the many funerals they have attended at this link:

From Wikipedia near top of page:

On 31 October 2007 the church was ordered to pay $10.9M to the family of a dead marine by a Maryland court. The court agreed that the funeral was a private event and should not have been sullied by protests. The judgment "far exceeds the net worth of the defendants" and is likely meant as a message to terminate all such future protests.[9]

Also read the post at the bottom of Wikipedia under Personal Injury Lawsuit which goes more into detail.

I can't believe that anyone can be so heartless and cruel as to do some of the things they have done. They in NO WAY represent God, only their own bigoted attitudes.

And what is sad is they have 13 children, 54 grandchildren and 5 gr-grandchildren that they have taught to hate others. There are at least three children listed as estranged from the family

Totally wrong. Were he a convicted sex offender, especially a pediphile. I would understand the feelings.

As to gays in the military. Consider if there is anything genetic about being gay. If they do not participate and die, there will be more of them back home. And yes gays are often known to have sex with women and have children. No! I do not want to take showers with them. That would be like me showering with the WACS. I don't think they would care for that. And there is a code of conduct where the straight soldiers would be offender by the feminine acting gay, being propositioned or hearing stories of exploits. But, yes I tink gays should be in the military. But most likely if open about it, out of there. I'll go with the don't ask don't tell. I guess obviously I'm straight considering the shower statement.

Lovely to see D Miller1982 answer basically justifies intruding on the private grief of a family just for the sake of making an ideological statement.

This isn't a religion, it's a cult.

Yes. Evil for hating anyone in general.
"Let he that hath no sins cast the first stone"(i think) was quoted from Jesus. Its almost like Christians deliberately overlook this part in favor of "evolution is a lie".

Christians suck

Yep. They are not Christian at all if they can be known by their fruit like Jesus said.

I will tell you what it is like. If someone stole your identity and committed a crime with it. That is what they have done to Christians. I have felt violated by them saying they represent Christ since they came to my town to picket in front of a high school about that Matthew Shepherd play.

They're a bunch of fruit cakes, more of a cult, than a church

Cult. And why prey on people who are in the hardest times of their life for your political/religious agenda? It's sick.

Yeah those people are crazy! They are so nuts is almost funny. They are probably the only true Christians in America so thank God for hypocrites! But what was your question?

Yes, very much so. They are poor excuses for human beings and give Christians a bad name.
