Judging by the shameless way sexually explicit material is displayed on TV, the suicide rate and teen pregnancy, massive drug addiction rates, divorce rates, murder rates, the increase of sociopaths in our society, I would say we are in REAL BIG TROUBLE! This is all because our secular society has excluded traditional values and ignored God! The only way we can help our children is to give them something to carry to the next generation, our love for God and family values! May the Lord come soon! Secularists and atheists do not have the answers! They don't even have a clue! Good question!

I think in general, human nature doesn't change. For the most part, I think that we are getting better, at least on a societal level.
As stated by someone else above, we've put aside slavery and enforced segregation (we still have to work on how segregated our society is). We have women's suffrage. We (generally) recognize child abuse as being wrong and that the poor and sick should be taken care of rather than left to fend for themselves. There's still a lot to work on, of course. And if at any moment we forget the depths to which we as humans can descend, we might lose how far we've come.
I also wish that we could focus more on /real/ morality (ending torture, demanding less corruption in government, equality and justice issues) and less on ridiculous pseudo-morality issues (ZOMG, naked breastesses on TV! Two boys getting married apocalypse!!!!).

People have been talking about the way the world's going to crap and how things aren't the way they used to be (i.e., good) since the dawn of time. For some reason the older generation always thinks that the younger generation has lost all its moral values. Nothing new about today.

The human understanding and practice of morality is currently improving.
Historically, people have based their conception of morality on the idea that God or gods will reward and punish them for certain actions. However, you can't bribe and coerce people into morality.
Morality is only displayed in two cases:
1) When people believe that they are not being watched (not even by God).
2) When they oppose the wishes of whoever they believe is watching them and risk retaliation from them.
If you help an old lady cross the street because you believe God wants you to and will reward you for it, that ISN'T morality.
If you help her cross the street because she needs the help even though you believe God will punish you for it, that IS morality.
If you help her cross the street because she needs the help and you don't care whether God rewards or punishes you for it, that IS also morality.
Since people are currently abandoning ancient religions and learning to think for themselves, the understanding and practice of morality is now on the rise.

I'm an American, so I can only speak from that perspective, but it's definitely getting better...I mean, we used to own and sell slaves, force children to work industrial jobs, prevent women from voting, and enforced segregation into the 1960's. Yes, we have a lot of problems now, but I'll take those over the ones we had in the past.
