Well, I think you are giving answers in the wrong category. If you answer questions in Immigration, for example, then yes, people are just picking the answer they agree with.
But try answering peoples questions in such categories as "authors." These people are not looking for opinion, they are looking for information. They choose the best answer based on who gives them the best information, not on who agrees with them.

I'm sure the asker reads all the answers, and I'm sure some of people's valid points do sink in, but in the end, most people are going to pick what they want to hear. A lot of people turn here for anonymous help, and being yelled at and belittled by people, even if they are right, is not very helpful.
You should only be here on Y!A because you enjoy the site and enjoy the discussions. Why do you care what people think of your answers? Say what you feel.

Is that what you're going to do with this question?
Who's forcing you anyway? If you don't want to answer questions or you have some ethical problem with the situation then just don't answer questions.

Understandable; however, if we all pick and choose predicated upon whether or not they pick our answers, the site would be in trouble. The goal should be to answer questions you feel you can and to offer your own unique advice. Of course, people will pick the answer they want; that's perfectly natural. No one demands you answer questions and if you feel the need to have your answer picked then perhaps this isn't a good site for you.

First question-this is human nature.
Second question-because you really are trying to help, but don't need the validation of always being hailed as "best"?

Because we're human. We ask questions hoping someone will answer in a way that makes us feel good about ourselves & our opinions. We want people to agree with us & we reward them for doing so.
So, if someone feels your answer is in line with their ideas, or if you've stroked their ego enough, they will reward you with 10 points. Or a thumbs up.

I agree w/ both Libby and this is me but you should also take into consideration other people may have the same question and your answer is what they are looking for.

Meh...it's annoying, but it's human nature. I just move on to the next question.

lol, online or in real life, people have always asked advice, and then still went ahead and did what they wanted. Most arent' looking for true "advice" but merely confirmation of their own beliefs.
