The above sites will give you directions (walking, bus, subway, and commuter rail) and estimated times of travel from Grand Central to West 68th St./Broadway Ave.

You do have a lot of options for travel...

If you want to orient yourself to Grand Central Terminal, go to http://grandcentralterminal.com/pages/default.aspx and use the online Tour option.

Easiest is probably to go down one of the subway entrances at Grand Central Terminal, and take the S (shuttle) train or the 7 train westbound to the next stop at Times Square. (The S is probably easier, as it just goes back and forth between Grand Central and Times Square - no other stops or wrong direction to worry about!) Then, transfer to the 1, 2, or 3 train uptown to the 72nd Street stop, and walk down to 68th St.

Really easy, this will get you there quickly with no problem at all, and will save you quite a bit of cab fare. These trains come along all the time:

Get to the subway (the 4/5/6/7/S are at Grand Central). Get a MetroCard of $4 or greater ($2 for getting there, $2 for getting back).

The S shuttle (S in gray circle) runs every few minutes; find it, and take it to Times Square. Those are the only two stations on the whole "S" line, so there's no way to miss a stop. The 7 is another option, though it stops at 5th Avenue in between. Go to whichever one you find first. They both go to virtually the same place, though the S might be just slightly closer to the 1/2/3. You can go either way.

Then, find the 1/2/3 trains (uptown- or Bronx-bound, do not take a downtown- or Brooklyn-bound train). All have the number in a red circle. They run straight up Broadway. Get on any of those three trains, whichever comes first. The 2 and 3 run express, so you'll have to wait until 72nd to get off. Close enough, it's a very short walk. If you get the 1, just get off at 66th and take a slightly shorter walk. A previous poster mentioned the 9 train, but that exists no longer.

No matter where you get off, though, it'll be VERY easy to find 68th Street, and a very short walk. Just start walking up Broadway and check the street signs. If you're going the wrong way, you'll know it within a few seconds when the street numbers are going the wrong way.

I've selected the subway because where you're going is easily accessible via subway, and when that's the case, I'll pick the subway every time. Manhattan buses are subject to stoplights and traffic.

To get back, just go back the way you came! Take the directions I gave and take them in reverse. It's very easy.

I like easy...the easier the better.

My wife is from Ct. and every time we go up to visit the relatives, friends, Romans & countrymen, we always take the train down to the City for a day.

First, go out Grand Central's main, front entrance...and just before you walk out, there is a great little coffee shop that has the best blueberry muffins in the world...they might have other great ones as well, but I always grab one or two of those and a coffee...this has become a must stop for eveyone in my family.

Second, when you then walk out the front door, there is a cab stand. Just get one and go...no hassle...no bus or subway schedules to worry about. Don't dress like a tourist; give the driver the name of the business or building you're going to, and an exact address. I always glance at a city map before we go, so I have an idea of what route I should expect the driver to take...if the driver takes the long...long way, then I just take the price difference out of any tip I had planned to give him, and I let him know that as well. But, in all the years, I've only had that happen once or twice as best...not a hassle.

Ok, once you arrive in Grand Central Station, ask for directions inside Grand Central Station for the subway. You want to catch the #7 train (color-coded purple) and take that train west to its last stop, which is 8th Avenue/Port Authority.

You then want to transfer [which is free] (walk) from the #7 train inside the building to either the #1,2, or 3 train (color-coded red) Uptown to West 72nd Street.

When you exit the train station, you will be on the corner of West 72nd Street & Broadway, you simply need to walk down to West 68th Street (4 blocks).

The reverse directions would be, take the # 1,2, or 3 train Downtown to 42nd Street and then transfer to the #7 train going towards Flushing (it's only 2 stops). Get off the train in Grand Central Station and walk upstairs to catch the Metro-North.

When you get off the train, follow the signs to the 42nd street exit. You go through the doors and a bit to your left is the bus stop. Get on M104 bus going west (your side of the street) and stay on the bus for about 30 minutes until it gets to 68th and Broadway. That is the easiest (but not fastest) way to get to your location. Faster but much more expensive is a taxi, which is available right in front of GCS. The is $2 and they don't take dollar bills, only coins.

To return, get on the southbound M104 bus on Broadway (will say UN Plaza on front) and it will take you right back to Grand Central.
