I think clutching at straws is exactly what they are doing, my mom only ate red meat once a week, that was because it was she could afford to do, she never smoked or drank in her life, she was health conscious yet died of breast cancer, I get so damn cross when these so called experts are telling us what we can and can't eat, I believe cancer is in the genes, in certainly has been in my family, it goes right back to my g-g-g -grandmother, I'm just in the process of having gene testing myself and no matter what the outcome is I am going carry on living my life exactly how I want to, I believe when your time is up then you go and that we cannot change.

Everything has a risk and people must decided what level of risk is acceptable to them. That is why its so anoying when they make these statements about cancer and dont give any real comparisons. For example with BSE. You were more likely to get knocked down crossing the road to the butchers then catching this disease from eating the meat! And the disease would not have been there if the E.U. hadn't lowered the temp that cow feed should be cooked at to suit greedy manufacturers. Most things seem to be affected by greed these days even cancer treatments. My son has been fighting brain cancer for 5yrs now, he is 15, and over the years the nurses in the ward have become more stressed in their jobs partly because they no longer have the numbers to cover the wards properly, because of management/government greed and they are so busy 'working' they can't spend the time sitting talking/reassuring the poorly children. Sorry I'll get off my soap boxes.

Personally I think it's a load of rubbish.

I think that it would be easier to make a list of things that dont cause cancer than things that do!!

This whole cancer thing has got way out of hand - when ever some half baked study is done or some little university lab comes up with the weakest link all the alarm bells ring and the media love it.

All we have to do is eat a healthy diet, have your red meat - look at lions and tigers etc etc.... they are mammals just like us and they live on red meat, fat and offal yet its extremely rare, when these animals are found dead and examined, that cancer was the cause of death.

The biggest problem in society today is lack of exercise and smoking. Sort those two out and good health will follow.

nowadays everything is linked to cancer i tend not to believe the 'news' anymore. i feel for the farmers and their recent tragedies but the government seems to be attacking smokers by banning and fining everyone why dont they target drinkers? smoking doesnt lead to committing a crime like excessive drinking and yet there are no graphic adverts for what alcohol can make people do. raise the drinking age to 21 and reduce drinking hours and put giant warnings on bottles and cans. the government is picking on smokers because they get more money from people buying alcohol and the more people spend on it the richer the government gets. this country has gone to the dogs!
